There's a technique with toilet paper known as the 'rope pull' where you stand facing away from the roll, thread it between your legs and then pull in one constant steady motion (a bit like using dental floss). Its much more paper efficient although takes some practice.
I was intrigued by this suggestion, so decided to try it.
