I have a bag of oranges which we are not going to eat. I think there are about 6. I just needed one for a recipe and they had run out of single ones so had to buy a bag...
We don't like them and won't eat them. Obviously though as a wannabe OSer I don't want to let them go to waste!
So my question is - is it worth making something with these or are they too few? Could I do a small amount of marmalade or something? What else can you use oranges for?

The three-fruit marmalade we make uses three oranges, three lemons and three grapefruits to make quite a decent batch, so based on that, yes, you have enough to be worthwhile marmalade-ing.:o We often make small batches of jam/marmalade, if we don't have a lot of fruit - as long as you keep the proportions of the ingredients the same as the original recipe, it works fine.

Or you could stick whole cloves in them and make a sweet-smelling old fashioned pomander in time for Christmas .... use a thimble, though!0

could u juice them ? i was also going to suggest making clove oranges....we do that each year to make the downstairs smell lovely for christmasonwards and upwards0

And if you are into home-made wines, orange wine is an absolute knockout - very strong indeed, and good as a night time sleep inducer!
Or you could slice up a batch and either dry them out slowly in an oven for an old fashioned decoration or pot-pourri ingredient. Then you could also slice them up and boil them up in sugar and water until you have crystallized oranges (there will be a proper recipe for it somewhere, I'm sure)One life - your life - live it!0 -

How about a batch of Joes Ancient Orange Mead? Pretty foolproof as long as you're not in a hurry.
Or peel and save the zest for use in rhubarb crumble etc. (it freezes easily) and drink the juice.
