If its Mil Pol it'll take longer than that to find me!

Oh yes? You've had previous experiences?

As for speedy driving I daren't in the KA.

    Why? Too unstable?

I have however started looking for other cars I might look at replacing it with at some point, not really seeing anything I would really really want to buy so just generally getting a feel for the small/mid size cars currently available.

    Any thoughts so far?

Just decided to get the old iphone out of the airing cupboard and thought it'd do no more harm to see if it could be revived - popped it on the charger and the screen lit up with the dead battery display, so am cautiously hopeful that it'll work again in which case I'll either wipe it and sell it or keep it as a spare/take abroad handset.

A holiday phone seems a good idea. Especially if you go swimming... ;)

I dated one briefly, and I've seen them in action when I was working on mil bases.

I'm more worried about bits falling off it! There are a few rattles which I think are more likely to be related to the box of stuff in the boot that I can't be bothered emptying out but not entirely certain.

Nope, nothing that I particularly like the look of, have had a play with a few manufacturers configure your car sites but mainly just working out how to many the ugliest/most expensive/model with the most pointless toys built in than actual research! I'm still not planning to actually change the car until later in the year or even next year depending on how it's going towards when the MOT is due.

Yeah yeah phones don't like to swim as much as I do. I get it. :p

And ever since you've not been impressed... :rotfl:

First rule of diagnostics - simplify. Get the box of stuff out of the car and go for a drive. What's in that box anyway?

If you can track down your rattle, and it isn't serious, at least you'll be more confident that you're not going to be trailing car bits along from work...

What are you looking for in a car?

    Apart from fewer rattles...

That's good. Otherwise you'll have to change your ring tone to this, so you don't lose your phone...

It's assorted car "stuff", digital compressor, jack (possibly two), an assortment of WD40 and deicer cans - trying to use them up at the minute, bulb set from the Fiesta, need to check if the KA uses the same bulbs otherwise I'll offload that on to family members who still have a Fiesta - the emergency kit in its silly plastic triangle (I suspect if I ever need it the thing is too small and unstable to actually be visible but it has useful stuff inside it).

Moving on from fewer rattles.....4 wheels with tyres, doors, at least two seats and engine.

Nothing overly taxing to find, decent fuel consumption for a commute and something that feels like it's actually moving on a motorway, I need a reasonably large boot space for when I get back in to diving, as a minium I want to be able to get my largest kit bag and a couple of cylinders in there. I'm not bothered by bells and whistles, as long as there's a radio/cd player (and aux in is nice to have but not essential) not bothered by DAB radios, or bluetooth connectivity or built in sat nav.

    Needs a sort out...

You don't need two jacks certainly. What compressor do you have? I'm looking for an auto-cutoff one because I'm getting lazy...

What sort of commute? Long/short urban/motorway?

Sounds like most of anything would suit you. Did you like your Fiesta? Was it ideal? What would you change?

One is mine the other came with the car.

At the moment its 3 miles on small rural lanes.....or 6 miles on A roads when the weathers bad.

I liked it, there were no real problems with it, given my general attitude is that a car gets me from one place to another, without costing me a fortune in running costs. The seats didn't fold totally flat but that was very rarely a problem as the dive kit fit comfortably in the back unless there were two people with kit in the car - at that point tbh any small car would struggle though.

It doesn't mean that you have to carry both. I have 9 wheels, 4 are in the garage - only 1 is in the boot.

For three miles you could have a Trabant... ;)

Have you looked at a Kia Ceed?

Yup it barely seems worth the drive but it's just a shade too far to be walking when I have early shifts or late shifts and ridiculously expensive taxi fares round here.

Nope not seen one while I've been out and about to have thought to look them up yet.

Well there's no point in just doing a taxi as that's the same - a short journey in a car. Having said that, my own commute will be a similar distance soon.

Your "four wheels" specification stops any motorbike malarky. ;)

What's your view on estate cars?

I've not driven one often so when I have done they've felt too bad and uncomfortable as a result, but beyond that no particular feelings either way, as long as it's nothing on the bigger end of the scale.

I've periodically contemplated a motorbike then go off the idea again. But with my trip to work as it is there are too many blind bends and dips in the road not to mention the very poor road surfaces for me to even think about it.
