Can I join please? It's only me and my husband and we have always aimed to spend £40 per month but if I'm more realistic we spend more than double that I like the idea of allocating £10 per day so that's what I'm going to go for. £310 from 1st Jan - 31st Jan

Am hoping in the upcoming months I can get back to the £40 per week or less that we should be spending.

  • Hi all, I'll be joining in again this coming year. Loved participating for the last few months of 2014.
Can you put me down for £300, hoping to spend less as my freezer is full of meat and fish. I also have quite a few packets and tins that need using up so will be doing January's meal plan around what I have in.
My budget runs from 29th December- 1st Feb so a full 5 weeks

    Hello,

I have finally decided a figure for January, it will have to be higher than usual because I cannot eat too many carbs.

Yesterday I had a pre-op appointment at the hospital for a small procedure I need and discovered that not only I have put on quite a bit of weight back, but my blood pressure is right up.

So I need to cut carbs, the cheaper food, and increase proteins (fish mainly, but also nuts) and vegetables, which are more expensive. It seems the only way for me to lose.

My January figure is going to be £360 please. I won't put down a NSD challenge figure but will count the NSDs anyway

Merry Christmas all and see you in January.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Happy Christmas Eve folks!
I would like to join the challenge as I spend waaaay too much on food and drink and just can't afford to let it continue.
Only problem is I have no idea on where to start with a realistic budget and January is an odd month as I usually have a freezer full of stuff. Shall I just guess an amount for the first month?

    Thanks! Debs

In too much debt to put the number on paper :(
  • I haven't done this in AGES, but need to bring spending back in to check and get more organised. Planning to simplify our lives more if possible, cut back spending and get more saved. In no debt and want to keep it there.

Our January budget will start from the 4th of January for 4 weeks and will be £200 for the 3 of us including diesel. Have loads in, so shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Debs, welcome to the challenge.
How many people are you feeding? I have a full freezer but as I use bits, if I see a good offer I'll purchase meat and fish and put it in the freezer, that way it's always got a good stock in it. I aim for £60 per week for 2 adults and 2 boys aged 5 & 3, one of which has a hot meal at school.

Thank you for your kind reply :) I am feeding 2 adults and an almost 5 year old (also on hot school meals) and a 2.5 year old. My girls are fairly healthy eaters for little uns! My major downfall is running out at lunch time, as I work full time, and grabbing food for tea that I wouldn't need if I prepped in advance! I know this month will be an oddity as I am not back at work until the 5th and I have loads of stuff in that won't get eaten over the next few days :rotfl:
