2015 WILL be the year that I get my finances sorted and stop wasting money

    :)

so I am aiming for a £50 a week food spend, that's for 2 adults, 1 elderly (fussy) cat weekly visits from DD and fortnightly catering for 4 adults as OH has a regular gathering on a Sunday.

£50 a week is very doable, I have plenty in the cupboard and in the freezer, I do already meal plan but OH has depression and often doesn't want what ever I have planned for that day, which should in theory mean that food lasts longer if he's not eating?! Don't always work out that way!

Am statring a spreadsheet to track where it all goes :eek:
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

  • Hi

Can i join for the month?
    Put me down for £250

Thats for me and 1 other adult
    Barclays: 3900/4200
    NatWest: 2350/2800
10% paid off as of 5/1
  • Long time lurker here wanting to watch the pennies a lot more in 2015...just two adults in our household and average spend on food, groceries etc has been £360 a month eek! I monitor my budget but not so good at taking action to reduce spend...

Spend will include food and cleaning products and and occasional takeaways but not meals out. I will exclude alcohol and and bought work lunches though we both usually take packed lunches. Budget will run 25th to 24th of each month as that is when Direct Debit goes into joint account for household budget.

Please put me down for £300 for January. Hoping to get that down further as year goes on but that would be a start and an improvement.

In again for my 5th year and again will try for a stay the same or a bit less.

Am going to take advantage of my hatred for cold wet weather and go as long as possible without shopping so an extreme use up whats in for me for January.

  • Right I am really going to do the challenge this year. Please can you put me down for £175 in January (starts new years eve). This is for the 5 of us and is to include dog food and cleaning supplies - I actually make my own but I still need to buy white vinegar and of course loo roll.

I went to sainsbugs today and they had massive reductions. Joints of beef reduced from £18 down to £1.80, lamb chops, mince, posh sausages, etc. I bought quite a bit and now I have no room left in the freezer. I have a huge chest freezer and it is chock a block with meat and fruit and veg from the allotment. I don't think I will have to buy any meat until March / April time. Mum won a huge turkey in a raffle - she doesn't like turkey so she is keeping it in her freezer for me. I think we will have this for Easter.

Right, my challenge month starts today, and runs till 31 Jan. I am aiming for £250 for all food, toiletries, medicines, pet food, alcohol, cleaning products, indeed all 'consumables'.

Nothing needed today, so a NSD :)

Hi all. We are currently on holiday in USA, visiting relatives for Christmas. Surprisingly despite most things being cheaper here, I'm always surprised at how high the cost of some groceries are!

We're not back until 5 January and my month always runs 25th-24th. So, I will try & stock up a bit when we get back, as I will keep my budget similar to usual but will only need to make it last 3 weeks. So, I'm hoping for £140!

I have so much relaxing 'me' time, compared to normal, while on holiday, I should be able to keep up with the thread nicely. I know January's thread is always very busy, due to all the New Year's resolutions!
