Braved Ald! - OMG it was manic whatbwith the poor staff trying to restock the shelves and most of the population of our town in there....

Anyway, spent £23.23 and that included a pack of soup mugs for work lunches and a pack of permenant markers for my freezer packs.

Quite chuffed with myself as I stuck to my list
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

As I had a £65 underspend last month I decided to go to the Chinese & Indian shops and stock up on big packs of prawns, aromatic duck, razor clams etc; basmati rice plus sauces and spices. Just put everything I wanted into a trolley and was pleased to find that everything I bought came in at just under £65! This hopefully means that I should have another underspend this month which will go into my "bulk buy" pot for later in the year when the freezer needs restocking.

Have had the 1st spend of January's budget of £20.16 split between Mr T, Aldi & Icel*nd.

    Will update signature shortly.

  • Hi all, long time lurker but really hoping to get a handle on our grocery spend and meals in general this year.

Have been catering to different whims/preferences and dining times for too long and sepnding a fortune as well as hours on end in the kitchen !

Now aiming to rationalise both the budget and time spent making food that may or may not get eaten..... I am hoping to set my annual budget at £5000 and the calendar monthly break down for that is £416.66. Family of five no pets. Would be great to come in under that but trying to be realistic for now.

Amazing resource and thread and look forward to it assisting me daily stay on track.
  • Hi all
Had to do a small emergency shop as dd, hubby and gs are coming for tea. Spent £3.75@ A**i and £5.96@ S*****b**s to go with joint I had in freezer. Have also done menu plan for rest of week so should be able to keep to my budget (fingers crossed).;)

  • First shop of the year complete & only spent £42.04! Very pleased with this as I haven't done a full shop for nearly 2 weeks... Lets hope I can keep it up :)
  • First lot of shopping for the year and have spent £9.44 in C**p and £5 in the butchers.
Did include some reduced price smoked haddock fishcakes plus a large gammon steak which we can share later in the week.

First shop of the year, and with my new budget, and with withdrawing the money in cash to spend from. It was also my first attempt without using a supermarket.
Veg ok, and sundries ok, but biggest disappointment was the butchers. Still there a couple more for me to try next week.

    So I'm £47 spent so far :)

Planned a NSD for today, but then read all the posts on homemade soup! Only needed carrots so thought I'd bung everything else in the slowcooker, nip to shops, come back and add the carrots.

This took me longer than expected due to my hand having an argument with the food processor. Needless to say the FP won! So I stemmed the bleeding, wrapped it up, drove to my sisters (she's a Nurse, but not one that likes to deal with blood apparently!!) and got it all patched up.

Today is also the day I agreed to help my niece with a mass purge on her housework. So with 3 working hands between us, that's what we did. Then to Mr T for the carrots, and treated myself to an iced coffee as I was feeling sorry for myself. Spend of £1.79.

Only just tackled the soup again, so it's all bubbling away in the SC now. Better be worth it! Just want to add that I hadn't even managed to chop any veg before incident, so there are no "added extras" in the soup!
My name is CherryPie and I'm addicted to grocery shopping!!
