Hiya everyone and welcome more new peoples :hello:

does anyone know if there is a facility on my supermarket or anything to put a full shop in and find out where's cheaper overall based on what I buy in a weekly shop?
    !!
I don't think there is as they don't cover all the shops/all the items

Don't know if anyone else uses MnS ? ATM they have a leaflet on the tills which is entitled 'Healthy Eating' - it's a brown colour - but inside there are vouchers for £5 off £25 shop each week for the whole of January (they don't seem bothered if you pick up a few ;) ).

I know it sound expensive but if you go for YS time and look for offers you can do quite well. Used first one today and got basics for 10 meals including some lovely haddock and two whole trout. Altogether my bill was £21.29 after using the voucher :T

Hope you all have a super Saturday

Lynnejk great minds an'all that...I have a few of those leaflets, but also because of DH's work i can buy MandS gift card credits with a 7% discount, so in reality I save 27% if I am careful not to exceed the £25. Which becomes £20 after the leaflet, but in reality I have only paid £18.60 for each £25 shop! And yes, YS of course makes it all the more worthwhile. I ordered £80 credit but paid ££74.40, planning to do 4 shops there only, because most of my shopping comes from market, farmers market and l1dl/ald1.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I spent £4.99 on wild bird food today, and have updated my signature to cover this. I will need a few bits from Lidl tomorrow, and will do an online shop over the weekend to stock up on basics we are now starting to run out of :)

I have a separate budget for things like this, that I call "household". It covers washing powder, toiletries and random house items or kitchenware. Everyone budgets differently so it wouldn't work for everyone, but it helps me see how much money exactly is going on food!

Hey clare33 -- I on the other hand am terrible for buying things I don't need and hiding them amongst my groceries... I include them in my budget, purposely so i am conscious not to chip it away on little bits and bobs... :o when I get better, I then separate them, but I'm not that good at the minute  ... I Hope you find what works for you!

Dinner consisted of leftovers from new year and cheese and biscuits... I'd happily eat this every day, but on the basis Im running out of clothes that fit, that's not a good idea! :rotfl: but most of the leftovers are now gone in time for tomorrow's shopping.

I didnt get round to it tonight, so will make some soup tomorrow, along with bolognaise and chilli for the freezer! Well that's my plan! :A

    Bargain meal tonight.
Worked out it cost us 26p for the four of us. A little bit more f you include the bbc sauce, oil etc.

We had pulled pork baps (using leftover pork from yesterday) in rolls that I got today that had been reduced to 16p! With wedges made from a bag of YS potatoes (25p)- I used less than half a bag! Obviously I very lucky to get my YS and leftovers but was still impressed! We are out tomorrow night for dinner at a friends house and lunch will be leftovers from New Years eve. We still have massive bowls of potato salad, coleslaw and tomatoes which I think I am going to have to throw soon as I don't think we will eat them quick enough :(

Didn't mean to shop today but DH announced at 11.30am that I may have to feed two extra at lunchtime. Suggested sausage rolls - nothing defrosted so made a mad dash to Mr S, bought sausages and puff pastry plus all of the bits from my ongoing shopping list - total 30.20p. Ok so it wasn't planned but I have enough in to last me at least another week.

It's a super opportunity to have a few specials. I buy my yoghurt there as it's low in sugar and a few bits anyway, such as liver, and if you're careful with the offers and YS there's a good saving there ;)

Could you wash the mayonnaise off the potato salad and coleslaw and throw in a soup ? The tomatoes you can cook, sieve and freeze for sauce/soup :money:

  • So I popped out to the shop last night to get a hair colour (greys had gone wild lol) but ended up spending another $8 on food bits for dinner  Its this kind of spending I need to stop!!
Love people use things. The opposite never works.
  • It's very hard Amanda, but slowly we'll develop new habits. Remember the shops are laid out to encourage you to spend xx

Ooh. Thanks! We're not back to the UK until Monday and so hoping there'll be some next week as we have £40 of vouchers which we had for Christmas that we have decided to use for food.
