I've got through the first week having spent very little, just on fresh stuff.
I'm hoping this week will be the same although I'm out of Chicken gravy and running low on eggs.
I still have a freezer full of meat though so I'm still confident we can get through on such a low amount this month.

    Happy new year x :)

Tesco today - food spends £47.40. Next spends will be veg box delivery on Tues, then will try and see if I can get to next weekend (bread and milk may necessitate a quick dive into shops before then, though :()

  • First spend on the new challenge, £23.39 in Asda and £14.40 in Aldi. Would probably have been more but both shops hardly had any fruit or veg - not a super 6 in sight!! Will manage with what I've got.. Well stocked with most things so will hopefully manage now until at least the middle of next week so I'll hopefully clock up a few NSDs.
    January 2018 Grocery Challenge - £0/£300.
    Saving for Xmas 2017 - £0/£2000.
    Emergency Fund - £0/£1000.
    January 2018 NSDs - 1/25.
  • First shop of the year - to HB for cleaning products etc. I did really well and only bought what I needed and didn't buy any goodies.

Hopefully I shouldn't need to go for 4-6 weeks, the less I go, the less I can be tempted by bargains!

  • Had my second NSD today. Feeling creative with the store cupboard and freezer ingredients. Made lovely nut cutlets with various left over bags of unsalted nuts (Ald* are best for nuts I find). Microwave-baked some potatoes from Xmas shopping and then cut them into wedges (ditched any bad bits at this stage), olive oil in a spray bottle and into oven. Fresh and frozen veg, grated old hard cheese over veg on plates ... cheap and yummy. I have some Tes** vouchers to spend tomorrow so will have a ride by there after my walk on the beach, see if any offers and use the peanut butter voucher. Saving in my pot is going well. :)

Slightly late, but joining for this month. Over spent by £30 last month, but know why. No meat to buy this month, and only 4 weekly shops, so I'm setting myself a £250 budget.

Spent £30 today buying stuff to make healthy food to take to work next week

Also spent 5.75 in Wilks not sure if will count towards grocery budget, was for a nail brush, a mini chalk board and chalk for kitchen, reduced (to aid shopping listing!) And some cute penguins to hang on tree (reduced also). So not groceries as such but thinking about it in previous months I'd have probably lumped it all in the grocery budget so probably ought to!

I have a separate budget for things like this, that I call "household". It covers washing powder, toiletries and random house items or kitchenware. Everyone budgets differently so it wouldn't work for everyone, but it helps me see how much money exactly is going on food!

CherryPie sorry about your encounter with the food processor, hope your hand Gets better soon.

Soworried you can make your own gravy, do you have any chicken stock cubes? Just make a strong stock with hot water and add a bit of cornflour, until it thickens a bit to the usual gravy consistency.

You can also make onion, or mushroom gravy, just chop the onions or mushrooms finely, add to a bit of fat/oil/butter and cook until soft. Add stock, or water and a shot of soy sauce, or a tsp marmite or bovril, then thicken with a bit of cornflour. There, no need to go to the shops for gravy!

Declaring NSD no. 2 today, delighted and proud because I walked through w8rose today (on my way to the cafe for free tea!) and noticed YSs but did not buy!

    Good night.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
