Happy New Year to everyone, and would like to join in if I may.
I do try to keep to a budget but have decided to really try hard so that I can put some money into savings for holidays and treats.
We are a family of 4 DH, myself, DS 20 & DD 16. I love cooking & baking and usually cook all meals from scratch. We rarely eat out as we can never afford it!
I have got quite a lot left from Christmas as we were all quite ill with this cold & cough that has been going around, although we are much better now.
I am going to put us down for £350 or £70 per week to include everything, food, household & toiletries.
I did my first shop since before Christmas today and we are on a limited budget I think I did quite well.
I have meal planned right through to next Friday.
Went to Mr Ts total cost was £25.04 and after coupons paid £7.42.Then went to Ald* and spent £27.36. So should only have to buy a few bits such as milk and maybe a few bits of f&V.SPC 11 #4450 -

we are trying to get back to our frugal ways but with a fussy toddler in tow, we are slipping back to old ways.
We are already well into the month (though its a 5 week'er this month for us, we got paid a week early due to xmas) and the budgets dwindling.
Ive meal planned for the remaining days this month and I'm hoping we can do it.
one more big shop coming tomorrow from Mr T but I have just been online for over an hour down branding where i can to meet our target and removing anything unnecessary!
so our figs are as follows:
123 card (cash back!) - 168.91/£200
current account (for butchers and grocers where necessary) - 61.95/£100
total budget £300 for janCurrent Mortgage balance - £363,785.35/£420,000 (highest point Oct 2022).0 -
After a very spendy few months I have to economise and so I have just been through the fridge and cupboards (will tackle the freezer tomorrow) and worked out some meals using bits up for the next few days.
I need dog food and some milk and fruit but other than that I think I can get through the next week using up food from stores.
I'll pop to Aldi tomorrow and hopefully spend less than £10.
My budget for January will be a very thrifty £120 - I actually hope to spend less but am being realistic for once!
I need to get back into actually cooking and not microwaving expensive ready meals....0 -
Enjoyed reading through posts. Interested to see that a lot of people are eating out of the freezer. My new challenge is to cook once and eat twice, not good at that and our freezer isn't the biggest but think this is where I can save some pennies. Bulk bought some !kea food tubs on Awazon and they're handy for storing left overs so now i have no more excuses!DH, 2 DD and 2 cats. aiming to be mortgage free at 51, 10 years to go! Just put some soup/broth mix into soak overnight, to stick in SC with Lamb bones and LO veg for soup for tomorrows dinner.
Every friday we go out for a couple of hours (date night) to meet friends, 9 times out of 10 we end up grabbing food out - we,ve decided that even if its a tenner a week, that money can be put to better use, so we,ll eat a basic meal before we goNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
