NSD for us here, I'm normally one of the first out in the sales but I'm really not feeling it this year!
We had salmon, mash & green beans for tea. Salmon was a bargain freezer pack that I picked up must have been around October time, really sad that we have just 1 portion left, hope its on offer for my next shop!

Joining in the happy cry of NSD! First one of many, I hope.

I took a drive with DH around the small towns and villages of Kent and East Sussex to look at house prices and have a nosey around, but we brought a very large flask of tea and a box with some mixed nuts, so we did not need to buy refreshments anywhere.

I am going to "buy" some cash online on the M&S gift card tonight because I have a few £5 off £25 shop vouchers, but in reality I am not spending because I am just moving cash from one card (my credit card) to another (the gift card), and getting 7% off, so that in reality 4 x £25 shopping trips in January will cost me the princely sum of £74.40, just under 27% off the full price. If I buy YS stuff it will be a month of real bounty at excellent prices.

Every January I do this and manage to shop really well for food, especially now that M&S have opened up to other branches.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

  • Coriander in a bag from Morrisons 10p and 1 onion plus 6 big carrots from my xmas shopping, 1 veg stock cube. This made a large pan of yummy soup, bit pepper for flavour (I buy pepper and salt grinder types from Home Bargains). It has now cooled totally so I am pouring it into bags for another day in the freezer. I want to keep stocks in my freezer so if I am tired or very rushed I have meals in there thus avoiding high spending.

Well my challenge is off to a great start. NSD1 completed and have started on my strangest Xmas present ever. A huge sack of potatoes!!!!!! I have frozen some part cooked wedges, only enough for one meal as not sure how it'll work. I have also pre cooked some jacket potatoes for lunches at work. Can anyone advise how long a bag should last if kept properly?

  • Potaoes - coolest place possible. Dark place, light makes them green. Somewhere dry; damp is bad for spuds. They keep for weeks and weeks if they have been well stored (including before you had them). Just cut out eyes and straggly growing bits, as long as not green they are fine. How about planning to grow some later this year? Even better! Old buckets or rough patch of soil will do. Home bargains do good seed potatoes :)
