  • I imagine the general public consensus on blue badges would be 'Great, but don't take the p***'.

when we reported it to the council they said that they had done a risk assessment done and they deem that between certain time they do not allow parking as may be deemed as a obstruction.

So there is a risk of obstructing.... the council can't predict the exact times which maybe begs the question why make it available to bb holders at all..
If you as the bb holders, you are the bb holder aren't you? If you had left the car with bb in place the police would most probably of walked on by but as you were in your vehicle they were able to ask you to remove the obstructing vehicle.

Properly every yellow line in this country someone could say you were obstructing. As why would they be yellow lines in the first place. but surely it should be down to the people who look after the parking to make the call to whether to allow BB to park there. IE the council.

You will know its not thank god down to anyone other than the law, the law in this instance is the police person who asked you to move your vehicle. You were lucky the bobby did not prosecute which s/he could have done or reported you to your local public protection office or blue badge administration department for sanction.

You have a due of care to ensure that the Blue Badge holders vehicle does not obstruct other road users.

You can also park on single and double yellow lines in most streets providing you don't cause an obstruction.

Your blue badge does not mean you can park anywhere. ... for example causing an obstruction.

Read the Blue Book that came with your badge, and study your local bye-laws. You are a fool and do not deserve the privileged benefits of your blue badge because you could not be bothered to read the rules by which that right was awarded to you - and worse is your arrogance, when told by many you were wrong you continue to insist you are right. You are not right, and as a disabled BB holder I'm ashamed of you, its behaviour like this that 'tars' all BB holders as 'not deserving, greedy, selfish, grabbing people pulling the disabled card. A suspension of your badge for some long while might give you time to reflect, learn the rules, read your R&R book, and teach you some humility.

You don't seem to get it....a bb is not a get out of jail free card, it allows the users access to more appropriate parking for the bb holder. While parked a police officer comes along and Informs you that your parking is obstructive and you need to move it you move it because what you deem obstructive or not doesn't matter, the council may of given bb holder rights to park there but you have to do it in a safe non obstructive manner...
Also from you blatant failure to answer when asked if it's your bb or not I think we can conclude it's not so you had no right parking in a bb spot and its a shame the police never asked to see the badge, the person who it belongs too should have it confiscated.

As a blue badge holder myself I am very careful not to abuse the badge and always try to park with consideration to other road users usually in a disabled bay or space in a car park I never park on yellow lines where I could cause problems.

I would also suggest you read the DOT booklet that comes with the badge and point you to page 22.
The Blue Badge is not a licence to park anywhere. If you park where it could cause an obstruction or danger to other road users you could be fined or receive a Penalty Charge Notice or have your vehicle removed.

Not quite right, certainly no one who is not the badge holder should use the badge for their own use however they can use it if the badge holder is with them and they are collecting or dropping them off.

    Who can use the badge?
The badge is for your use and benefit only. It
must only be displayed if you are travelling
in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if
someone is collecting you or dropping you
off and needs to park at the place where
you are being collected or dropped.

Do not allow other people to use the badge
to do something on your behalf, such as
shopping or collecting something for you,

unless you are travelling with them.

You must never give the badge to friends
or family to allow them to park for free,
even if they are visiting you.

You should not use the badge to allow
    non-disabled people to take advantage
of the benefits while you sit in the

car. Although it is not illegal for a badge
holder, or a non-disabled person waiting
for the badge holder to return, to remain
in the vehicle while the Blue Badge is

    displayed, consideration should be given
to using a car park whenever possible.

It is a criminal offence to misuse a badge.

This includes people other than the badge
holder taking advantage of the parking
    concessions provided under the scheme.

I meant the op who it doesn't look like is the bb holder cannot sit in a car as the driver of the bb holder cannot sit in a bb parking space and wait for the bb holder.

Talking only about a obstruction point. how can my car parked there for 20 mins be more of a obstruction then a large lorry 3 times my length and alot wider parked there loading/ unloading for 30/40 mins. the answer is neither are causing an obstruction that's why the council allow it to happen. So why is one allowed and one isn't It was just a job worth copper.

The lorry loading/unloading is a necessary action.

As has been pointed out, if you are the driver and disabled then there is no reason to park there as you are not leaving the vehicle. If you are not disabled then the BB has no bearing even though it may be a motability car as you can park the vehicle in a normal location and return for the disabled person.
