Sixth Anniversary Combo Breaker Debt-free and Proud!
Hugs to everyone going through tough times at the moment.

My other debt repayments have finally gone out today so I'm now at:

    #009 £373/4683 (7.9%)

Looks like I'll have an unexpected windfall of £200 coming soon as well as me and some friends have claimed compensation for our delayed flight home from Amsterdam last month. Easejet have agreed to pay out 250 euros per person - thanks MSE for the complaint letter template! :j
    Starting 2016 debt-free :D
    Emergency Fund: £350/£1000

IvyandEleanor so sorry to hear about your friend.

Kittycat that sounds so scary. :(

Ruthy I didn't get chance to say it yesterday, but thank you for your tips and advice. :)

This is our first time to Disney world as a family and we are all beyond excited about it! :j I have tried to keep expenses to a minimum. I've been reading 'the dibb' for tips. :) We have the free disney dining plan, so each of us gets a snack credit, counter service credit and a table service credit each day, plus the refillable mug (when at hotels). Our dining plan includes character meals etc so it will be brilliant. For food we will really only need money for tips for the table service meals and maybe the odd extra treat. DD's meal credits are for 'adult' portions so we should be able to share a few meals if the portions are as large as you say....just have to agree on what to eat lol!

I have friends who buy bottles of water from Walmart, but I agree with you. We will just get water from the water fountains and I am going to take some Robinson or Oasis squeezy squash for DD and DH.

My mum bought us Memory maker for Christmas so all of the photos that we have with characters/rides will automatically be sent to our Disney account. Which means we don't need to worry about buying any photos. I am planning on getting an online canvas printed with some of our favourite photos - or maybe asking for that as a Christmas present next year. ;)

Part of our spending money is to pay for the Kennedy Space centre, so we will hire a car for that day and go to Walmart to pick up some breakfast snacks etc while we are out and about.

We were given spending money for our Christmas presents which is amazing and so we nearly have enough money to cover all of that. :)

I asked for a personalised autograph book for DD as a Christmas present and some Disney pins for her to trade while we are there (instead of paying £3 a pin while onsite), so we don't need to pay for any of that while we are there.

I am trying to keep the additional costs in check as much as possible. ;)

Still need to pay for the actual holiday of course. The 'last straw' thing is still brewing. We had an small prang in our car over Christmas and the repair costs are borderline as to whether the insurance company will write the car off!! They write it off when the costs are 60% of the car value. We will have to wait for the official decision on Wednesday. But if they do write it off, we will need to find probably around £2k to put towards a 'new/old' car with similar mileage to replace it. :( I feel a fight coming on....

Anyway, MSE love to you all however you are feeling today. It was our first day back at school today and it was fab to see all my lovely scrummy little ones again. :p
Saving for Disney again, oops why book one Disney holiday when you can book two!

Hello - just a quick question...Can I use the payment on another challenge against my DFBXmas2015 goal? Joined the extra payment each week thread and skimmed bank account to pay off £12.26 to my B/C. Is this cheating? I'll wait to see if this is allowed before updating my total.:D

Not cheating! Of course you can. You make the rules, but I'd count it :)
  • Good evening you lovely lot.

Kittycat1981 - that sounds scary, I hope both issues get sorted quickly! Health pushes can often go hand in hand with debt busting - eating healthy is generally cheaper than unhealthy, getting outdoors and doing exercise is free etc. Stick around and keep us updated :)

mossy - looking like it's going to be a fantastic holiday, I'm very jealous! That's bad news about the car, is it completely unroadworthy or can you live with the damage for the time being?

beckie89 - welcome! Your number is on the list on page 1. :T

Everyone else - those payments keep on rolling in! Keep it up, it's going to be a good month for debt busting. For those who have had a challenging start to the year, keep strong and keep those eyes on the goal. Cheers for making this thread such a supportive environment :T

I've been thinking of running the Manchester 10k in May in memory of my friend. He did it for many years for his favourite charity and so it seems fitting. I'm torn though as this is the BUPA one so is not only £38 entry but it's got approx. 40,000 runners and I don't like crowds... Thinking of maybe doing another 10k which not only costs less but has less people and still raising money for his charity... what do you guys think?

Have you seen the City of Manchester 10k? Only about 3000 runners usually, but a great atmosphere. £10 off entry at the moment too, which makes it £15.

Pablosammy unfortunately we damaged the back wheel and it was undriveable. We were visiting family for Christmas so we had to get a hire car to get home. Due to the Christmas backlog he underwriters only gave permission for a garage to pick it up from storage on Thursday so it didn't get assessed for repairs until Friday. :( We'll see what tomorrow brings. x

IvyandEleanor sorry to hear about your friend.

Kittycat hope they recover very quickly.

Paid bin cleaner with spare change so can allocate money for it in bank to debt - £1.65. I actually wanted to cancel him as think its a waste of money really but OH isn't keen... I think thats mostly that he doesn't want to take the work back off the bin cleaner personally, although he hasn't said that!

ETA - Also noticed I'd allocated unneeded money in two categories on YNAB so £66.51 reserved for debt too!
