    Happy New Year :)

I have a dilemma-I am planning to pay off £4000 this year-and on Christmas Eve I found out I got the job I had an interview for and I start January 5th. I don't know whether to pay the extra money off debt or save up to move house. I posted about it here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5143990 and any thoughts would be most welcome :)

I think my payments will slow down now my overtime has been reduced :)

Normally I'd just say 'pay off the debt', but it sounds like moving is a priority. In fact, I'd be saving anyway - with the current group of high-interest current accounts, it makes much more sense than paying a zero-interest debt.

So, in reality you don't have to make the decision now. Just save, and in 6 months you can decide whether to pay off some of the debt with your savings or move.

  • Just a quick note on 'Thanks' politics!

I'm only 'thanking' those posts that I've properly addressed, so I leave posts with total updates in 'unthanked' until I've done my spreadsheet. I know us humans can be sensitive beings - please don't be insulted if I thank someone's post and not yours, it's just that I'm using the 'thanks' system as a record of which posts I've read and updated.

Yes, I know, I've gone mental... :rotfl:
  • I would like to join this challenge! My parents loaned me £15,000 as part of a deposit last year, and the balance as of the end of 31st December 2014 was £10,100.00.

I'm not sure what number I'll be, but I've just made 2015's first payment after formalising my January budget:

    #? £850/£10,100.00 (8.4%)
    Debt paid off: £8,343 / £15,000 (56%)
