I read this thread every couple of days and support given by being part of this group is amazing. If people read my signature you will see how far I have come on my journey, the hard work is worth it, I don't think I am going to reach my destination this year but that light at the end of the tunnel is definitely getting bigger!DF by Christmas 2014 #78 £18,964.15/£15,000

Well I only came on here to say that one day I will be near the end of my debt and can join the challenge... but as you are letting people join who have an amount they want paid by Christmas I'll join now:T
I am aiming for another £4200 paid off this year.:D
Hey, Digging! Yeah, we let anyone in here...
Welcome to the thread, you're number #185.I was paid on Friday so, after doing my sums I worked out I could make my final payment and I am now debt-free!

I'm really grateful to this thread for keeping me focused on my goal and I don't think I'd be in this position now without it. A special thank you to Pablosammy for all your hard work on this thread.

number 180 checking in with a payment of £432 made off the MBNA card.
I have decided to abandon my previous plan of building up the card balance in my savings account and paying it off in December as I cant trust myself not to spend it, too many temptations, so at least if I pay it off the card directly each month I wont be tempted to spend it.
Yes I may forego a few pennies of earned interest, but its better than not being able to pay off the card! Im just not disciplined enough yet.
I did EXACTLY the same thing. Built up a bit in a separate current account as savings, and then worked out that if I overpaid my debt instead I would only lose out on about £10. I chucked it at the debt, and I'm so glad I did. It's a great psychological boost, if nothing else.timefortea wrote: »This is my first update so hope I do it right!

Last month is the first full month I've ever kept a spending diary. What an eye opener. Even on a month when I was trying to be really good and stick to a strict budget I wasted money and went over budget, so I dread to think what I was doing before. I've tried to pay off my debt a couple of times before, and got very close last year, but this is the first time I've ever kept a spending diary and made myself accountable. Onwards and upwards!
You did it perfectly, cheers! Good to hear you're making progress, it's those little eye openers that end up changing your attitude towards money.I wish I could say things are going well but they're not really! Hopefully it will all improve soon. I've made good progress in decluttering so that is a start I spose.
Oh no! Keep your chin up, it's a big old rollercoaster for lots of us. I hate the lows, but remember that the highs are often just around the corner. :beer:0 -
Well, folks, month end has been and gone and all I can say is that you've all done fantastically yet again. Despite having fewer members than last year's thread, we're beating last year's totals almost every month. This one is no exception. Grand total is...
£40,493.50
That's over £17,000 more than we managed last month.
What's more, we've just crossed a MAJOR landmark. Since the beginning of the first thread in 2012, a total of over... drumroll please...
£2,000,000 (YES... 2 MILLION!)
...has now been paid. I think we've deserved a beer :beer:0 -
the usual loan payment has come out - 11 to go :j
Gosh I never thought I'd say less than a year left. Think I've been in debt with personal loans since I was 19....
Updated total in signature :j
What an amazing total so far everybody, keep up the good work. :beer:Baby due 21/06/20170 -
