I started back in 2012 with a £10k target and soon realised I would find it more motivational to be paying off my entire debt. It really worked the first year then we had (more) redundancies and a baby come along and this year I am ecstatic to see the total going down and knowing there isn't any more hiding as you say. The only downside is that 1% of a larger debt is obviously larger so it feels like a huge effort to get from say 5-10% paid but it is totally worth it when you do well. I'll be your big debt buddy if you like!

Just checked my bank account online and I must have done my sums wrong because 2 direct debits went out today to take me over my overdraft limit. Paid some cash in to sort it but I AM AN IDIOT!! This is throwing money way.

So logged on here straight away and found your lovely post, thanks SpagBol. I think I need a big debt buddy.

  • Not been around for a while, but a little update from me.

My monthly DD came out so I have a new total

Not sure about anyone else, but I found February hard work for chipping away as I only achieved my usual DD. January was a great run strangely! Need to put my energy into it a bit more for March xxx

Just checking in, managed a small payment but the interest has all but swallowed it up. The overdraft has risen considerably so not sure what's gone wrong this month. Need to give myself an shake, stop wallowing in the I can't seem to do this syndrome and jump straight back into it. Fingers crossed for a successful March!

C'mon ali bf, let's put February behind us. It's going to feel like one step forward and two steps back sometimes I'm sure. But March WILL be better!

Unfortunately for me I managed to overpay twice by mistake, so I actually did BETTER in February than I expected. No doubt it'll bite me on the bum in a few weeks when an unexpected bill crops up and I don't have any money in the bank account and have to resort to the CC...

I've just paid for my car insurance - goodbye £320 :(:( But I'll be glad I've paid it off in one chunk, right?...

Yes amr547! Paying it monthly or quarterly always works out more expensive over the year - and now it's paid it's done for 12 months! Look at it this way - you've paid it off in one lump but if you divided that it works out at £26.66/month - so that's only a small dent into your month even though you've done it all in one hit!

    Martin would be proud! :money:
