  • We've had a breakthrough!

Found a name we both thought could go on the list. Ended up both going off it...

But then OH suggested a name which was one I already liked. She also said that she's starting to warm to one of my favourite names. It was when I said it along side DS's name and she thought that they do actually sound good together.

So I think we've got a few options.

We'll probably just decide on the day like we did before. But at least we've got some options to choose from now!

We have a similar problem on the names front Freddie, We have 3 children already and have used up our name bank on them :rotfl: The few we like have been struck of the list due to knowing other children/village idiots/awkward rellies with the same name

Scan this week coming :D Bump is growing rather rapidly - my shirt is literally gapping at the buttons  I bought some bigger leggings too as mine felt rather tight!

All feels rather real now :D

    Good luck for scan mary
Our next scan is 7 weeks away - will be nice to get to see him again.

OH's bump is getting really big now. Baby woke her up last night with his strong kicking

  • I'm having a grumpy day - PGP and now SPD pains are getting me down and stopping me doing basic stuff to look after myself/hubby/pets/house/work. Everyone keeps saying how "well" I look, but what I've actually done is bought a BB cream for "mature skin" *eye roll* to cover up the fact that I don't look well. I'm also getting comments about how neat my bump is, but I just don't see it, just feeling fat and very uncomfortable. Unless neat means small perhaps - my growth spurt has definitely curtailed.

Picked up our pram/pushchair. I was struggling to manoeuvre myself enough to help with assembly. God knows what'll happen when I'm actually big...
  • We bought some things for the baby. Couple of hooded towels and yesterday we went to IKEA can bought a cot and chest of drawers.

We realised that although we bought a wardrobe for DS, we never hang anything in it - everything gets folded and goes in the drawer below it - it's just easier.

In fact pretty much all of his current size of clothing fit into that one drawer - minus his sleeping bags. He doesn't really need much storage space in his room.

We keep towels, bibs, muslins and nappy stuff in the drawers in the changing table.

We don't have a huge amount to buy really.

I think our list of items to buy is rather small - 've picked up bits as I've gone along but with each baby we have learnt more about whats essential and what it "tat"!

we need a car seat, changing mat, bouncy chair, clothes..... oh and eventually a cot! If I can find one going cheap I think I would like one of the moulded bath rest seat thingies although they usually end up in the bath with me!

Oh and a 7 seater car ....... good job the list is small as so is the bank balance :(

  • I feel like I've bought waaaay too much - but when I look at the list there's some obvious stuff I'm missing like clothing below size 0-3 months, any mittens, hats, socks; re-usable nappies; cot; sleeping bags below size 6-18 months... Travel cot (we're doing long trips to see family)... I feel like I ought to get a thermometer but they're expensive. I just think the first time they're poorly and I suspect they're running a temperature I'll be sprinting to Argos to get anyway (in tears).

I'm determined not to buy anything unnecessary but with a first baby it's so hard. Hubby takes any recommendations we receive quite seriously; when those recommendations come from other couples that have been mindful of not buying things that weren't helpful that should be great, but inevitably within that every couple has that "one thing" that wasn't essential but made life easier. But if you listen to all of them you end up with lots of extras! So far we've bought the pram/pushchair, car seat, cot mattress and fitted sheets, changing mat, re-usable breast pads, some emergency formula (with free bottle), muslins, hooded towels and flannels, health care set (little nail clippers, brush etc), sleeping box, sling, bath support, room thermometer, 2 newborn soft toys, 2 small blankets, bibs, and Lidl toiletries. Clothing and sleeping bags are all in bigger sizes picked up in the sales, some 'starter' biodegradable nappies for the first week when we're completely shell shocked; some of the above were freebies (like the sling :) and box), and the cardigans are being knitted.

Just feels like so much for such a tiny person!
  • Your list all sounds like sensible stuff LavendarBee

We got a thermometer that goes in armpit. Think it's Braun. Was from mothercare because we had a voucher to spend there.

Sleeping bags are great! It was a few weeks before DS could wear them because he was too small. But once he could he seemed to sleep much better - more cosy and he couldn't kick it off like he did with blankets.

We're going to get a new bouncer because I never liked the one we got... also he pooped in it.

  • Congrats Mary - got a name picked? :)

I unexpectedly heard little one's heartbeat for the first time today, was at the hospital and the Dr said she'd have a listen whilst I was there :D shame I was by myself but still. It was going at 155bpm.

I asked about movements as I've stopped feeling somersaults, but still get kicks, elbows, headbuts, some of which are visible. Apparently they are probably getting to the point where they're running out of room for such exaggerated antics. Feel better for that :)

I like the sound of the armpit thermometer Freddie, didn't even know they existed, but I'm going to look at them now! I like the idea not only of baby not being able to get blankets over their head, but also having the tog ratings. Gro-egg says put this on baby, so I put it on baby. Easy! I'm always freezing so I'll think that baby is always freezing too.
