I'm pleased your bug seems to have passed Mancmama. Gosh you'll be off to the next thread soon too.

Newcook you are always allowed to change your maternity leave start date towards the end of the pregnancy if things are getting too much for you nearer the time. I completely understand the conundrum of whether to work to the last minute or to rest before the birth. I'll be in a similar position this time around as I'm a supply teacher (no pay when not working but need to work lots before week 25 to be entitled to SMA). When I was pregnant with my son, he was due in September so I has the whole summer holidays off (pretty much the last 2 months) and my pay was backdated. This baby is due in February (before half term) so will have to choose when to work until.

Pinkpetal those classes sound really good. I'd love to do hypnobirthing classes this time around to help me manage my anxiety too. A couple of my friends have done it and were virtually 10cm before they needed any pain relief which is amazing. I think the Daisy classes also cover this. I did NCT classes with my son and they were very expensive and I thought they were a bit biased too (didn't help prepare for anything other than a straightforward natural water birth so when my birth wasn't straightforward I felt underprepared and terrified and also like I'd failed somehow).

I completely understand the not getting on with pregnancy comments. As I lost Poppy, I always feel like I should be grateful for being given a chance again and feel guilty about moaning about anything symptom wise. However, I do think that pregnancy is definitely not easy for some ladies, and the ones who sail through it easily are lucky. None of my pregnancies (3 including Poppy's) have been easy physically (the last couple have been really hard emotionally too). I think what I'm trying to say, is be kind to yourself. Only you know how you feel inside and every lady and her experiences of pregnancy will be different. Don't be afraid to admit when you're feeling low to your loved-ones so they can support you. Xx
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

I've chatted to a lot of pregnant women lately and very few of them actually enjoyed pregnancy. I really do think it's a chore to start to finish, but the end result is so worth it! There's parts I love, feeling the kicks, spending every penny of my wages on gorgeous baby things, but I cannot wait Saturday nights with a glass (*bottle) of wine and takeaway. I've not really missed it that much but I know come Saturday when X Factor starts and I'm wine-less it's really going to hit me!

I'm planning on working right up til the birth. I'm self employed and work from home so don't have the luxury of annual leave to take before maternity leave starts! It's not too bad though, I'm sure by December I will be working from my bed in my PJ's!

well I tried to keep it together until OH went to work last night but when he said 'babe, you look tired. why dont you get yourself an early night and I'll bring you up some hot chocolate before I leave for work' - it all came tumbling out along with snot and tears!!
I felt a million times better after my cry and when OH came home this morning he told me he's ordered a big pregnancy pillow to help me sleep better! He's also told me to stop putting so much pressure on myself to drink/eat/exercise as worrying is no good for any of us!

Tinks - have you tried schleor (or however its spelt?!) its sparkling grape juice so has a hint of wine taste to it. or becks blue is quite nice (with lemon is even nicer!) or be a little bit naughty and have a v.small wine with lots of soda.
I honestly thought that not drinking of a weekend (or after a carp day at work) would be the worst but I've not missed it as much as I thought I would!

hope you all have a lovely relaxing bank holiday weekend!

Aww newcook your OH sounds lovely! How thoughtful to buy you the pillow.

Well I went to the Dr this morning and have now got some omeprazole - hopefully I should start to feel a bit better in a couple of days and will actually be able to eat something without getting heartburn every time. :)

Mouse - yes the daisy classes cover an element of hypnobirthing (but for much less £££) and the girl who takes the class told us her two birth stories, the first of which was horrendous and the second sounded amazing (home birth, pool, barely even knew she was in labour and went to sleep for a couple of hours before giving birth!!)

Glad you feel a bit better now newcook, I think you're best to let it out and not bottle things up. I sometimes get a really odd rush of hormones and it makes me feel quite down. Never experienced anything like it before...but now I just say to OH and he sorts me out and makes me laugh! I also have one of those big pillows and it is amazing, OH jokes that it's the third person in our marriage! Often I'll get up during the night for the loo and when I come back he's cuddled right into it! haha!

Lol about your Oh stealing your pillow. One of the couples at my NCT class told a similar story of her's. They must be good then. I may have to invest in one this time.

Oh yea, it never occurred to me that by the end of xfactor it'll be almost d-day!

Hope you all enjoy the bank hol weekend, being in Scotland I don't get this one. Think we get 2nd Jan instead! But the weather is lovely and we're off for a bbq with some of my cousins and since two of us are preggers we're doing some mocktails. Yum!
  • This thread is v quiet just now...has everyone moved onto the next one??

Hope everyone is doing well! I had a midwife appointment yesterday, just blood pressure and listening to the heartbeat...in and out in 10 mins! Got my form to give to work though...tried to do it yesterday and ask a few questions I'd like clarified before I decide when to finish but everyone in our HR dept seems to be on holiday and when I finally got someone she said it was her first day and she couldn't help me! I work in a big company (1500+ staff) so you'd expect there to be one competent HR person in the office!! grr!!

Good luck with your HR dept Pink! In my experience (and my husband's) they are generally fairly rubbish at answering queries, but fingers crossed you'll get some answers soon.

I had my 16 week midwife appointment today. Blood pressure is fine, urine sample dipstick thingy was fine, and blood test results were all OK. Baby's heartbeat was checked and was around 150bpm, although I couldn't hear it very clearly because baby was wriggling about and there were a lot of swishing noises.

Other than that, been busy potty training my 3yo. Going pretty well, but he won't say when he needs to go, so it's a lot of prompting to use the potty and a bit of frustration because he's saving his poos for his bedtime nappy. Can't wait to do it all again, hahaha! Oh, he also says baby is a boy and his choice of baby name is his own name. Think we'll veto that one!
