My car has iso fix fittings. However some genius decided to put underfloor storage compartments in tge rear footrests which means you aren't allowed a foot prop. As iso fix bases/carseats need two fixing points, and a foot prop is the most common type of second fixing point, I have to have belted carseats.

I'm afraid I don't trust high street shops much when it comes to advice on car seats. Especially as their selection of rear facing after stage 1 is pitiful. If any of you live near one of the three In Car Safety Centres then I highly recommend going here. I got my daughter a good belted rear facing stage 2-3 seat once she was 14 months that can only be bought by them they import many from Sweden that have higher safety standards than here. Also check if your council offers any services regarding car seat safety or advice.

It's recommended that children rear face until 4 due to it being 5 times safer, and I think it is law here until 15 months. So if your baby outgrows their stage 1 before they are 15 months you may wish you'd bought an iso fix base that had a rear facing option after stage 1. Sorry if I'm baffling you but this wasn't known when I was buying the first time around and caused my NCT group a lot of difficulty when moving up a stage.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Theres probably no point me joining here but ive finally got a laptop so can come on here easily. I very vaguely joined the less than 12 week group but found it hard to contribute over mobile.

but anyway I am 22+1 with baby number 2. I have had a fairly up and down pregnancy but other than mild SPD I seem to be doing okay now.
  • Welcome Jemma :) I'm not far behind you, think I'm
    21+2 today.

Hi mancmama, glad the scan went well. Lovely to see you over here! And welcome to Jemma too!

Thanks for all the car seat info. I'm thoroughly confused so I'm going to take a few days to research and then go to the big pram centre near us. Everyone I know who has been there all say the service and advice is excellent. Probably do that at the weekend and hopefully get a bit of a shortlist. I'll then take some time to read up on each one as we don't want to buy it until after the 20 week scan!
  • Haha pink petal I don't blame you for feeling confused! The first time we spoke to anyone, my head was spinning and it made me feel ill! Good luck with your research, you will work out what is best for you :)

    Good evening.

Hope everyone is doing well. Haven't been about for a while. We've been doing the kitchen so haven't had much of a chance to do anything else!

We've got the 20 week scan tomorrow so should be able to find out if we're having a boy or a girl. Will also be good to see the baby again.

We really need to start looking at car seats. We did check the car and we don't have isofix so it will have to be a belted seat.

I don't remember pushchair buying being so complicated for my siblings.....maybe I just didn't pay attention to that part.
  • I've got a mothercare sale preview email if anyone would like me to forward to them :)

The nursery furniture I had my eye on is reduced in the Mothercare sale. Really struggling to resist but telling myself it's way too early to order.

We ordered it early but got a discount so it was silly not to. Ideally I would have waited another few weeks but not sure it would be reduced... you just never know though!
