The best highchair I have ever had is the super cheap Ikea Antilop

We've bought one of these after seeing SO many reviews that said exactly as you have. It was really cheap too. Glad to hear you recommend it.

We've also bought nursery furniture, we were initially looking at 2nd hand things but saw a nice Mama's and Papa's set for half price in Argos down from £800 to £399, we had well over £100 of other vouchers from gifts, surveys, Emma's diary etc so it cost us about the same as if we'd have bought a similar furniture second hand I think.

We've worked out with travel system and other things on our list it inc. what we've already bought it will all come to around £1000-1200. The biggest expense being the travel system (yet to be settled on!) as I'm not really comfortable getting a car seat second hand, just personal choice. We're hoping to use vouchers for quite a lot of things as I've been trying to save them up so cash wise we're likely to spend far less than that figure hopefully.

With Christmas not too far after baby is due I think relatives will likely be kind enough to buy smaller things like clothes as gifts so we're not going to buy an awful lot beforehand.

I wouldnt have a second hand car seat either, Beckyy.. it is not purely the accident status but it is recommended you replace them after 4 years too.. general wear and tear on the webbing straps and the joints can weaken and also the regulations change so much in that time the older ones might not meet current safety standards and be a risk in case of an accident.. I think this was thought up after a spate of accidents involving older car seats and the straps snapped and infants were injured as a result, definitely not worth the risk.

    Hi ladies (and gents!)

Can I join the thread too?

Having only found out I was pregnant on Tuesday, and doc thinking I was maybe 8-10 weeks, we went for a private scan on Thursday which showed I am actually 19+4!!!!

So we are very happy but very shocked that I am so far along and still haven't really taken it in!!! I've had no symptoms apart from a few quite recently! So everything is a bit overwhelming at the moment!

I'm due at the hospital on Monday for emergency midwife appointment and bloods etc and a scan on Tuesday so I'm hoping all will be ok. Not so little bean had a strong heartbeat on Thursday so I'm praying he/she will be fine.

Anyway would love to hear from others for a little support. Has anyone else found out so late?! X

Will have to look at that high chair if they still stock it when we are at that stage. I'm going to try and resist buying things like and the cot bed until we need them, although I do keep seeing lots of really good deals on cot beds at the moment, but then it's finding somewhere to store it as we probably won't need it till next February /March time. I've still not bought anything for baby, I'll be 20 weeks on Monday so am waiting till my scan next Friday then I may start to believe this really is happening and start to buy stuff!

Congratulations! My friends niece found out quite late and one good thing is that the first stage doesn't feel as long, it's already past! How exciting :)

I bought the Ikea highchair as well, granted, I got mine second hand so it cost me a few Euro cheaper.

I got lots of things second hand - playmat, bouncer, changing table (all mamas and papas). Babies cousin donated some toys, 2 grobags and vests which have all been washed and sterilised. We also had an Amazon voucher for €120 so we used that and I bought things like breast pads, dummies, muslin clothes, changing bag.

Baby hasn't actually cost us very much, my mum bought Moses basket for us so we just bought a stand.

Plan on spending big money on pram/travel system and splashing out on an Ikea cot.

We haven't bought anything yet. I want to go and look in Aldi at their special buy stuff today.

Yesterday all the materials arrived for doing the soundproofing in nursery. I got the floor boards up to insulate the floor and found a hole the size of a cricket ball, avocado shaped, that went through our block work and into the cavity between the houses. Huge, completely open. Big gusts of air pushing through it.

No wonder the noise transmission from next door is so bad with walls this rubbish. It's like Swiss cheese.

Anyway I got it filled in. Put the floorboard back down and started filling the walls with insulation slabs.

    Congratulations LisaLou!

What prompted you to find out on Tuesday? Did you not have any suspicions at all leading up to it? (like missed AF)

Hope everything is well, it's good in a way that you got to miss out on the first trimester which we found very slow and stressy! Times going much faster now.

Can you let me know what cot bed you have got? I've no idea where to start :)

    http://m.costco.co.uk/view/p/east-coast-langham-oak-nuovo-cot-bed-188680

This one. And Costco was the cheapest place I could find it.

Like prams, there is so much choice. But this looks sturdy, it converts to a toddler bed, has a height changing base, has the extra storage underneath and it has good reviews too.

There are many cot beds with the same criteria, in different styles and with different price tags though, so you may prefer something different.

    Hope that helps xxx

  • Found out last night my sister in law is 5 weeks pregnant... Im the only one that knows and it's so exciting! Sadly they are dealing with a family bereavement so it's a tough time but fingers crossed for them with the pregnancy! It's going to be lovely to have cousins so close in age!
