With regards to negative birth stories, I think Mum's often don't talk about it unless asked, as it can be very traumatic for them and often difficult to talk about.
Those I know who've had bad experiences haven't shouted it from the rooftops, though have talked to me about it when I asked them if it all went smoothly etc.
Not sure if that's human nature, or just a very 'British' kind of thing to do. After all, the complications that people experience are often not a result of poor medical care (though obviously this is sometimes the case), but simply a complication of the birth itself.
Anyway, I'm sure zarf now has some more info and the subject and he and his wife know where to go and who to ask for more info. Here's to a super smooth birth for everyone!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

We're also having a boy!
We got to see quite a few more details than we did at the 12 week scan, can't quite believe how quickly this little person is growing!
Also got the hear baby's heartbeat for the first time :j
I hope everybody is well0 -

Congratulations!!
I swear you're just copying us now :rotfl: although we didn't get to hear the heartbeat. We did see it. Had the 16 week midwife appointment yesterday and was very quick. Just told her the blood test results which were all fine and took blood pressure. Got our 24 week one booked.
Wonder which boy will be born first. The race is on! :cool:Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Thank you. Hahah, we'd better not share name ideas... just in case :rotfl:
Feeling even more excited now we can think a little bit more about potential names, things to buy and that we don't have to keep everything very neutral. We've just about emptied our spare room so we can start looking at beginning to get things in the coming months (or weeks?) to stagger the purchases.
I had the 16 week appointment this week, it was quite a quick one too - bloods results, BP and the usual, and even more leaflets to read through! Lots about breastfeeding and monitoring movement once it's being felt regularly etc.
I think I've put on roughly 6lbs so far now. I've never really weighed myself very often so hard to know exactly, it doesn't seem to matter much though as long as there isn't anything too drastic?0 -

I don't think anyone should be unnecessarily scaring potential FTM's with horror stories though. I've had more than a few people tell me things, if I am to be honest, I don't want to hear nor do I need to hear. I can do my own research thank you.
No pregnancy or birth is without its drawbacks. However if you are going to have a baby, surely you've thought about how babies come into the world and weighed that up and thought about the toll pregnancy takes on the body.

Congratulations on a boy Becky.
Just under two weeks till we find out, I'm getting a bit impatient now!
The 16 week appointment was much quicker than I thought it would be, just a quick run through orc he scan results and previous blood tests, asked about antenatal classes and my mat b1 and listened to the heartbeat. My next appointment is with my gp, I wonder why they alternate it?
Lower back pain has been really bad today, I'm getting worried that if its this bad at nearly 19 weeks how bad is it going to get as I get bigger!!
I'm not even thinking about giving birth just yet!! I'm not great with pain or needles, but then I know that however much we can plan for it it doesn't always go as we want anyway!!0 -
ThinkPink, my midwife mentioned that the physiotherapist at the hospital offered early pregnancy appointments to discuss pain relating to posture/back/pelvis and preventative measures, as well as dealing with them if you do experience any. I'm not sure if it varies in each NHS area but maybe worth seeing if there's a similar service at yours? I hope the back pain eases soon.0

But at the moment you can buy some (though not all) of the items online in advance and get free delivery. The items won't be dispatched until 21st April. To cheer myself up this morning I bought a baby bouncer, plastic drawers, cot tidy and cellular blanket
Thanks for that Flutterby! I'd been looking at special buys a few weeks ago wondering when the next baby and toddler event would be. I'd seen done posts on MSE about things bought during the events like car seats.
I'll be going in this week to see if we can get anything good!Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Oh really, I may have to ask if there is anything like this in my area. I found a new hot water bottle as I was tidying up, so have used that this afternoon for just a short period of time and found it really helped so even if it's just short term relief it's worth it so this may be the way forward.0
