Thanks again, yes I agree they seem to be referring to the age 2-11 changes which came into effect for travel post May 2015. Even though I have now explained three times by email it is the changes relating to 12-16 year olds effective for post March 2016 travel they just repeat the same sentence, saying it wasn't charged, one9 reply actually said "read previous email !I" I can't decide if they are deliberately answering the wrong question or they really are that bad??? I foolishly booked it without checking their reviews as I thought as it was via Skyscanner it would be reputable. I have no problem waiting until after we have travelled for the refund but they're just saying it wasn't charged.
Anyway I will continue requesting the refund and hopefully someone in Travelup will realise I am entitled to it ....won't hold my breath though !0 -
I travelled on various flights around the US in May with UA and finally received this response regarding my 6 year old's APD from United Airlines
United is not refunding this fee as of this present time. If United does implement this change it will be for next year and the tax will no longer be included in the ticket fare.
We appreciate your business and look forward to welcoming you on board a future United Airlines flight.

Can they do this?0 -

APD would only be applicable on flights departing from the UK, not on any US internal flights
If your flight to the US was with United, when was it booked? (some airlines excluded the APD from child fares following the announcement last December)0 -
Hi,
I've just booked for my 13 year old to travel to Canada via Canadian Affairs. On their online website they say that under 16s are tax exempt and a refund will be given after the booking is made. However i was unable to use their online booking to book for my 13 year old who will be travelling alone so I called them and booked via phone. They knew he was a minor since they took his DOB and we later booked for lone traveller assistance. I believe their online booking doesn't work if the single traveller is under 16. On the confirmation form they've booked him as an adult, I then queried the tax refund and their response was :
[FONT="]"As ..... is travelling alone, a full adult fare must be charged. As an adult fare is on the booking, APD must also be paid. Unfortunately you will not receive a tax refund."
-- this seems unfair, he's either exempt or not at 13 years old. Who can I appeal too ?

Does anyone have any idea about Turkish Airlines, especially when there is an inter-connecting flight?
I don't particularly trust this airline and regularly overbook, I don't want to get a refund then they bump us off the flight!?0 -

The majority of airlines overbook. Getting an APD refund won't make you more or less likely to be bumped.
If you've paid APD for a youth 12-15 yrs at date of travel, and your flight departs the UK you are entitled to a refund. If you've paid it their price and taxes will be the same as the adults.
Check their website for info or contact them, or whoever you booked through.0 -
Anyone successfully got their money back through Travel Trolly. I've booked a flight for my 15 year old through then but they make no reference to APD on their website. We are actually flying with Virgin but will need to reclaim through Travel Trolly. I have contacted via email but I imagine my loss (£71) will be their gain :mad:0

They don't have 11-15 yr olds in a separate category. If you'd have booked direct with the airline, which is always the better way, you would have been able to see that is the case, from the front page of their website and they actually say on the flight selection page "UK APD no longer applies to passengers aged between 12 -15 travelling in economy from 1 March 2016.
Our systems are still being updated to reflect this but don’t worry – we’ll refund the APD amount before you fly!"0 -
We are going to be unable to fly on saturday to visit a family member as they are going through cancer treatment. i checked our holiday insurance but the flights only cost £130 and it would cost £100 in excess to claim and then they told me that £13 each we claim back in the APD. i have gone on to Ryanair website and it says on there that there is a £17 per person per booking fee to process this refund. is this right?! anyone else claimed from ryanair? or do i go somewhere else to claim?0

Ryanair, like lot's of airlines do make an admin charge for processing APD claims.0
