Bank Charges Test Case Article discussion

  • Sorry I think I misunderstood you - I take it priority debt means I have missed payments? I haven't missed any payments on c/tax or motgage etc. They are on my joint account, which isn't the account all the charges are on. The charges are on my sole account (with the same bank). This account has Direct Debits but only for my credit cards and the overdraft is £5500 (of which I owe about £3000).

    Hope this makes sense?

In that case it won't be a financial hardship case but if the credit cards have charges on then it might be worth reclaiming them since they are easier than bank charges.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

No charges on the ccards, just the bank account.

Is it not worth me even trying then in your opinion?
  • Hi guys,
Just thought i would let you into a discussion i had with a Natwest manager today. I was at my branch on other business, but asked before i left, what his considered opinion was on bank charge reclaiming, if the Lords decision went against them. He said, Natwest would take it to the European court, if only to stall it another couple of years. I mentioned to him, that i found it really weird, that Natwest and other banks, could even argue the toss on charges, after they had already paid out millions, prior to the test case and the subsiquent stay.
So looks like those of us that have been waiting since July 2007, will have to wait a good deal longer. I'll be dead before those crooks pay out.
  • I noticed that Nationwide are calling the £30 charges "interest" for returned direct debits etc.. is this a way around avoiding the reclaim process?

    Hi,

I haven't yet submitted my claim to Barclays but I plan on doing so soon. I want to switch from Barclays to Alliance & Leicester using their £100 cashback switching service.

I was wondering if I do this, and Alliance & Leicester close my Barclays account for me, am I still eligible to claim?

Do you need to have an open account still with the bank that you're claiming from?

    No.makes no difference
  • Halifax owe me some charges money back and I was wondering are they including all the other banks that there is a economic crisis on and that all the money they were supposed to pay back is not available until the resession is over?.
Have we heard any kind of new news that would make the day a little brighter for us customers who have been ripped off by the thieving bank charge scam?
Is there light at teh end of the tunnel or are we waiting until the cows come home, after all we all know that the banks love to collect money but not give any out ( unless they profit from it).
  • Thanks to this site I first put in my claim with Natwest in May 09 and have now gone down the financial hardship route, after filling in the forms etc and posting off relevant documents I rang the bank this morning and was told that my claim had been accepted and I should be receiving a letter from the bank with an offer, the thing is I'm not sure what I should consider to be a fair offer, I am claiming 6yrs worth of bank charges which add up to around £5600, can anyone advise me on this?
