Home made fish fingers!!!!! That's all I can think about now!WantToBeSE wrote: »Hehehe. It'll be my first attempt. I watched a video on youtube of one of Jamie Oliver's Foodtubers doing it (Kerry someone I think) and have wanted to try it ever since.
I'll let you know how I get on with it.
OK, they were AMAZING! I wish I could afford good quality fish as I'd make them more often. They were actually quicker to cook (3 mins frying each side, 2 mins to coat in flour, egg, breadcrumbs) than if I had bought and grilled frozen ones.
Both of the kids complained that I hadn't made enough though. I think I'll stock up on any white YS fish that I see0 -
Have taken some bacon and sausages out of the freezer today, and doing a fry up for dinner tonight0

The space made by the fish pie is being filled by a tub of apple crumble + there are the bags of beef to fit in. Must get something out for Saturday - that will make a bit of room.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I went through ours a couple of weeks ago, as OH gets into a rut of buying more meat than we need every week, without checking what we already have first - so we lived out of the freezer for a week, much to his surprise. One spin of the 'freezer roulette' wheel meant that I popped what I thought was some chunks of frozen, par-boiled potatoes into a stew only to watch the sticks slowly start to dissolve and melt. Luckily it wasn't huge chunks of beef lard skimmed from the top of a gravy as I feared at first, but cheese sticks - so not too bad an addition, once I'd fished some of the biggest bits out!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

Carbonara for dinner, with garlic bread. So taking bacon out of the freezer.
Also am going to attempt a fruit crumble using the mountain of frozen fruit I have.
Does anyone have a crumble recipe?0 -
Me and my husband will be. Some of the casseroles and unmarked bags (my own foolish mistake) we have no idea what they are or when they're from...it should be interesting!
Our biggest problem is that we freeze bread and I won't eat the crusts (not very MSE) so we have plenty of frozen bread crusts but no idea how to use them!:(
Bread pudding is a good way to use your crusts. Find a recipe online (as it's so long since I made one I can't remember how to!!)0 -
This is a really stupid question, but if you guys take stuff out of the freezer that day, how do you defrost it, safely, in time to use that night?

Well, krustylouise, depending on what it is, I take it out before work in the morning (08.00 or earlier) put it in a bowl in the bag, and put another bowl over it, then leave the whole thing on the (clean) draining board - kitchen is on the north side of the house. I then instruct HWMBO who is retired to keep an eye on it and put it in the fridge when defrosted.
I really need to join this challenge, hardly any room in the freezer and last night I removed a large ham bone from the freezer with a view to making split pea annd ham soup in the slow cooker overnight tonight...the result is going to take up much more room than the bone, but such delicious soup!“And all shall be well. I've got yesterdays curry to eat today and we've got a few people around so I can clear it out. Going to make Chili to get rid of the mince and a roast dinner from the chicken and veggies and also similar with two lamb shanks sitting around in there. Essentially it;s 2 weeks of food be gone!:D
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
Please don't feed bread to ducks, it's not good for them.
But the foxes don't mind it! Especially if it has some bacon fat on it from grilled bacon. Or chicken fat, they love that.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
