And now I have the joy of having my foster granddaughter becoming my real granddaughter. Can't ask for anything better

Hope today goes well and you manage to get heard Victory
Medical professionals can be the most wonderful .....but also the most frustrating in equal measures sometimes !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I would also ask for a review, and check what services are being offered to you.
I'm useless with names - but a big thank you just ordered the convent garden soup book, - soups are a staple part of dads meal plan.
A thought tho we were told to give dad jelly babies - there high calorie sweet xx
A few jelly-babies a day are a nice little treat for anyone - especially someone feeling grim... It's when consumption of several BAGS of jelly-babies per day becomes the norm. that a problem develops...
Don't beat up yourself mum2one. You are clearly a caring and sensible person. x0 -
I echo those who say he should be referred to the OT and physio. If he has the simmer frame, he needs to use it though. I would also suggest him having a perching stool and/or shower/bath board to rest on while washing. Do you have a Rapid Response team in your area? If so, ask for a referral to them for assistance with activities of daily living (washing/dressing/etc).
The ensure/frusibin drinks they give out are disgusting but are more palatable when really cold. I presume it's Movicol or Laxido that he's been prescribed. They are the most common ones. Persevere with them and increase the dose if necessary. Ask for another medicines review, especially the pain meds. It may be that he just isn't on the right ones for him.0 -
One thing that I am mindful of - and this may or may not apply to Mr. Victory - sometimes it is harder for a man to admit and accept that he needs help with some things than a woman usually might be.
Receiving help with intimate washing from a lady other than his wife, for example... Or going out and being seen by others (including his friends and acquaintances) to be needing a frame or a stick in order to be able to walk.
It might seem daft to us girls - but such things can be vitally important to the male psyche...
I know I'm an unmarried and barren little girl, compared to most - but I do understand that the appearance of "weakness", regardless of how it came about, figures more prominently in mens' minds than womens'...
I still like jelly babies and pictures of cute puppies and kittens though...:)0 -

I don't think this is only applies to men - when my Mum first needed a wheelchair for longer outings, I had to take her to another town to go shopping in case someone she knew saw her in the chair.:(0 -
I hope your husband is doing well xx0

when I was first on crutches hated them, and would do everything i could to avoid using them, it helped at the time as I had just had DD so I used her pram/pushchair/stroller as a leaning post which didnt help as I broke 2....
Same when I had to use mobility scooters would hire them anywhere but my home town, .... now 12 1/2yrs later:eek: -
have to accept the crutches - otherwise be flat on the floor,
turned hiring a scooter into a positive - cheaper parking, get to sit in comfort;)
wheelchair - it gets me though all the queues at passport and immigration;)
xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Your thread is absolutely shocking. Why did they discharge him with no support over christmas of all times (and no support for you) and with inadequate pain relief?
Trust your instincts - you are doing a fab job and if you feel something is not right then complain. It surely can't be right he is in so much pain (especially if the physio or whoever are expecting him to try and build his strength up).
Do not be afraid to push for readmission or say you can't cope if you you aren't getting the help and support you need (or he needs)
dfMaking my money go further with MSE :j
How much can I save in 2012 challenge
75/1200 :eek:0 -
