I don't have any claims for high mileage, but in the mid 90's I bought a 1980 escort with 48 previous keepers which I thought was quite impressive at the time - averaging over 3 keepers per year ...

For high mileage I don't think many people can compete with Irv Gordon

Fairly quiet 18 months on mileage here, so the Pug has only just made 221k. Just failed its MOT as well :( On a split CV boot. Yep, that's all that was wrong on a 220k mile, 21 year old, French, diseasal. Haven't even had time to do any maintenance this year apart from a set of front pads and freeing up the rear auto adjusters.

Maybe I should start a thread about "MOT fail, should I fix it?" or similar :D

A guy I used to work with extracted over 300,000 miles out of his diesel fiesta. Apparently Ford even bought it back off him so they could study the wear on the car.

All my cars have had high mileage

    Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel 174k-
Engine died after 3 years of giving it death

    VW Golf Mk3 1.9 N/A diesel 140 k
but was a heap so put it off the road fairly quick then scrapped it.

    Corsa B 1.5TD CDX - 184k
When it got wrote off when someone T boned it. Bodywork was aging as was gearbox but the Isuzu engine was still good for another 100k

    Seat Ibiza FR 1.9TDi - 124k
Sold this cheap as spares / repair as was showing signs of head gasket / head failure.

    Skoda Fabia vRS 1.9TDi - 126k
Going strong still but turbo is sounding tired

Sold a Nissan Patrol about 10 years ago with 576K on the clock (probably dead now!). This is not unusual for these. A recent sale saw an old Landcruiser that went up had 640k sell. They are large, almost lorry engines that don't strain much.

My argument for large engines over small with every drop of power squeezed from them......how many cars did that Nissan Patrol save being built?? If it was the avaerage car, probably been replaced half a dozen times.

I also knew a Helicopter pilot that changed his oil every 2000 miles (in helis, oil is lifeblood of engine; changed each time landed) had the rustiest VW Golf 1.3 Petrol with 268k on the clock. Irony was, the engine was the sweetest sounding engine you ever heard......bodywork was shot!!

My 2006 Golf is on just short of 187,000-miles. Will have had it three years this coming September and it had about 140k on it when we bought it. It's be overly reliable in that it's never broken down, although we've spent a lot on it in repairs over those years. I do most things myself, and have done each ABS sensor at least once! Biggest job was the Dual Mass Flywheel but I let a garage do that. I've had a lot of high milers and the key is maintenance. I've done an oil change at least every 8-10k and a major service at every other interval (save a fortune doing this stuff myself). Silly not to do servicing yourself if you have the tools, especially with auto factors such as Euro Car Parts always having good sales online!

We're looking at replacing it soon(ish) but only expecting spares or repair money as far as selling it goes. Probably get a grand if I tidy it up.

There is a great thread on piston heads about a 17 yr old, Porsche 911 with 300K miles on the clock, used to transport parts for a racing car team across europe.

The 15 year old Megane is on 107K not done much mileage this past year.

Will be selling it on soon though as I'm trading up.

I had a 95M 405 that did over 300k, not sure exactly as it has more than one set of clocks.

Sold at 5 years old and spotted 6months later being used as a Minicab on Old Kent Road.

If I remember correctly it had a clutch with previous owner (or a clutch cable can't really remember) a pair of driveshafts due to a wobble caused by wear to the long driveshaft. And the AC didn't work due to the common PCB fault.

Was on original shocks and exhaust but second interior after the drivers seats frame cracked.

The engine, turbo and gearbox were original.
