It's a moral dilemma when people have been to the West Rim and think that they've visited the proper Grand Canyon - whether to enlighten them or leave them in their state of blissful ignorance.
But for anyone who is planning a visit, IMHO it's best that they make the decision from a position of knowledge."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0 -
I don't see why.
If they are never likely to venture that way again and liked what they saw-then ignorance is bliss.
If they are likely to be returning- let them know other rims that are equally spectacular (and in some people's minds better) and they may wish to explore that option for the next visit. It's a moral dilemma when people have been to the West Rim and think that they've visited the proper Grand Canyon - whether to enlighten them or leave them in their state of blissful ignorance.

I'm rather sad the Riviera is going.

I saw a post on Facebook that had a picture with "Last Day of Operation 4 May" written on a whiteboard. This was allegedly posted by an employee of the Riviera. I'll see if I can find it again.0 -

I believe the casino will continue for a while - it is just the hotel part that is closing in May.0 -
I am also sad about Riviera...we don't go there often, but it's an old school place and there are so few left. As for CC, I wouldn't mind seeing some renovation/updates of the casino and common areas (have never stayed and doubt that we would due to location alone), but I am also in the camp that is kind of sad to see the old themed resorts disappearing. I appreciate places like Cosmo and Aria for what they are, I don't dislike them and quite enjoy staying at Cosmo...but I also like the cheese, it helps make Vegas vegas-y for us. I like the combination of the old and the new, the slick and fancy and the themed and a bit silly.
I am also interested to see what they are going to do with Monte Carlo with this reported imminent re-branding.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Oh for goodness sakeThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
We did the West Rim of the canyon from a plan a good few years ago. I wasn't very impressed. To me it wasn't that great. When we decided to go to Phoenix though we thought we should incorporate the South Rim on the way over to Vegas. We only spent about 3 or 4 hours there (due to the drive up from Phoenix, via Montezumo Castle, Sedona and checking into a hotel in Flagstaff), but we really did enjoy it. I enjoyed the hop on hop off bus, even though we only had time to get off at a few stops and walk one section. If I ever went back I'd spend more time there, I'd walk more of the rim, maybe get a better camera, and also take in Antelope Canyon. To me, the area has a lot to offer that we only did as a taster.
However, I don't know if it's that viable without a car. My opinion is that the south rim is better, but I also know people who think the west rim is good even though it wasn't really worth it for me.
As for the Riviera, I've not set foot in it for years either, but would have rather it had stayed. Not only is it the history behind it, but I feel everything is becoming glitzier and more expensive and it's nice to have a wider range. I can't help but think if Vegas would have got quite unaffordable by now if it wasn't for the recession.0 -
I'm in Vegas right now and have a groupon for the steakhouse at The Riviera. Probably would not have gone to it otherwise but pleased I am now.
Going to have a pre-drink in The Peppermill as I have heard many of you say favourable things about it.Thank you all who post.0 -
It was me who posted up about calling 0161 311 3111 as a route to dial a US number working out for free (if using housephone or mobile)...
But they changed it now to an 0845 number, so it costs 0.5p per min to call.
I booked my rooms in 8 minutes with myvegas and it cost 5p for the call
Room bookings for myvegas, it states on the reward how many of the bonus nights u can use...0
