Realised I hadn't answered this. I have no skills/knowledge with s and s but have a long term plan for these so if you go for big company that pay dividends historically they go up and down but it evens out eventually.

Our business is primarily wholesale but gave one retail outlet. (sort of) in the gift sector. We've been going for 10 years make a living from it and are starting to build our wholesale nicely.

Despite what the tories have said the high street hasn't recovered and since the election most of our customers have noticed a downturn in sales (although our products still sell well) with the exception of the tourist areas which have had a good summer and the museums etc which are flying. Lots of people going on stay-cations I suspect.

It's tough times running your own business but we will come out the other end.

Yep, I can totally relate to tough times running your own business, we have to try and come up with new lines and ideas to try and draw in new custom. If we didn't have the VAT to pay it wouldn't be so bad-at least we are still in business though, touch wood :)

It's almost good to hear this, reassures we are doing something right and so are you :)

Today I did an online bet! My first ever bet aged 41 years! It wasn't even a matched bet or anything! MiniOCC wants a new Norwich City shirt for his birthday and they are £35. Coral were offering a promotion where if you place 3 x £10 bets you get a free shirt. I placed 3 random football bets and lost each one but get a shirt for £30 so I'm a winner anyway :)

Got another Christmas present from an amazon bargain code on here. Total £1 to pay! Have given amazon an ultimatum to remove the surplus £30 from my account by the end of the week of I will assume it's a goodwill gesture.

Otherwise it's a no spend day. Got car insurance renewal through so will look at switching that. Am going to look for renewal quotes this weekend.
  • I like the sounds of the amazon bargain codes (though im unimpressed with our lack of Christmas progress in relation to yours...). Direct me please...!!

In terms of the own business thing a few of our friends have their own and we see the weekly anxiety of work and people paying on time - not sure id be cut out for it!

One poster is in the know for heavily discounted amazon stuff on

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/609651

And even the off freebie on the freebies board. I just keep a check on what this poster is posting and any items I think I'd want I order.

In terms of the business stuff it can be very stressful, if we were paid hourly we wouldn't reach minimum wage!
  • Thanks OCC - i'll check it out. We're always buying off amazon!

Arh thanks, I'll check out your diary, good luck on your mf journey :)

Today I have been epically unsuccessful at getting anything done! Went to the car boot sale brought a book on Carl Rogers and a few little toys for the miniocc.

Then went to lidl got the shopping as Aldi is being extended. Spent £48 so under £50 target.

After unpacking and preparing the dinner went for a walk with the dogs got distracted foraging blackberries and didn't get back til about 6pm.

Must ring car insurance tomorrow and try and finish my MF month end.
