Good Morning chums well looks as though its going to be a warm one today for sure as the temps are rising already and I have the fan on.
lyneplatinum yes our little history group is great .we all choose at the end of term what we'd like to learn about the following term (everyone has different periods) and our tutor (my old Uni Tutor and a fantastic teacher)gives us a two hour Friday afternoon session at her house. We have all been with her for around 10 years so we all know each other very well. Its quite light hearted at times and few Fridays we don't all disolve into helpless laughter as she digs out some amazing facts about different famous folk.
At one point we were discussing the sex life of Queen Victoria yesterday and Albert's antics to get some peace and quiet:):) great fun at a fiver a week the best entertainment and tonic in the world.we also get fed coffee and hm cakes as she is a great cook as well.
Not too sure what I am doing today as youngest DD has the weekend off and I think she want to get an outfit for DGS Ben's G/F Katie's 21st shindig next Saturday in Tonbridge Wells. All of us are going which is nice . She has all of her family there as well her and her twin are the eldest of 8 and the 'do' is in a nice hotel. So best bib and tucker for us next weekend
Not a lot of cooking today as its going to be too hot I think.I will get the piece of gammon out of the freezer and cook it tomorrow in the slow cooker for next weeks lunches, once cold its lovely sliced with salads and Wimbledon starts soon so I get glued to the t.v. watching that.I have my friend coming for a couple of days next week as well so lots of knitting and nattering
Hope you all have a great day what ever you are doing
Cheers chums JackieO xxx0 -

Hi Edwink, sorry to dredge up an old post! How much would you say the soap weighs? I have a lot of small hotel soaps I want to use for this.
I tried to be thrifty using the Aldi washing powder and it doesn't dissolve properly or smell of anything - its like adding dandruff to my clothes :rotfl: Will try this out before giving up and going back to my usual brandMy only problem is finding enough containers to put it in!

Synonymous are you using too much powder or filling your washing machine too full? I have been using Ald! powder for a year now. I can't tell the difference between it and Ari*l. It even has the same stain remover in it. If you use vinegar in your final rinse all traces of detergent should be removed. I don't find I need very much powder only about a desert spoon full because it is concentrated.
You should have room to put your hand in the washing machine and make a fist, after you put your washing in, other wise, it will not rinse properly.
I would try doing a maintenance wash just a little washing soda no washing and on a hot wash. It could be a build up of powder that is causing the problem. I wish there was such a thing as unperfumed washing powder I am allergic to the perfumes they put in all kinds of detergents they make me sneeze.0 -
Ecover Zero is unperfumed nursemaggie. That's what I use, as I can't bear perfumed laundry products. It's taking me ages to get the smell out of stuff that goes through hotel laundries while I'm away for work.0

Thanks for your ideas nursemaggie. I really do think it's the powder as it was the only thing that changed when I switched from Surf when everything came out fine, plus I recently used up a box of Ariel my housemate left and that was fine too. Maybe it's a duff batch as it doesn't even smell of anythingit's the purple-boxed one for coloured washes. I will try the soda crystal wash to flush it out though as the undissolved powder can't be good for the machine. I made liquid detergent tonight and it seems to have worked! Will see when the washing is dry. Could you make your own liquid detergent using a perfume-free soap?

I use the normal Ald! powder not the colour. I can't use any liquid because of DS's eczema. Surf is the worst powder for eczema. I really can't afford ecova and that is liquid anyway will not risk it.0

so this afternoon the tv will be on and my friend and I will be feet up watching it with long cold drinks and strawberries and cream

They do a powder as well (i have been using it for nearly 2 years). It might be worth seeing whether you can get a sample to try.
Alternatively, soapnuts are natural and unperfumed.
There may well be others - worth looking on some of the allergy sites or even asking on the OS board. I know some people make their own laundry products to deal with these problems.0 -
I made a batch of washing powder once that worked ok, just soda crystals and chopped up Castile soap (bought 5 bars for a quid at H*me B*rgains) whizzed in a blender. Took a bit of blending in small batches but it was a good experiment, you can also add essential oils for fragrance if you like. I think it was roughly half and half soda and soap.
And we have not used fabric conditioner for years, it is totally unnecessary. White vinegar will do the same job.One life - your life - live it!0
