Hi Edwink, sorry to dredge up an old post! How much would you say the soap weighs? I have a lot of small hotel soaps I want to use for this. I tried to be thrifty using the Aldi washing powder and it doesn't dissolve properly or smell of anything - its like adding dandruff to my clothes :rotfl: Will try this out before giving up and going back to my usual brand :D My only problem is finding enough containers to put it in!
    Many thanks x

    Hi Synonymous

No worries about bringing an old post back because we always have new shipmates on board and they may have missed it before!!

I use one bar of soap. Normally a bar is 100-120g each!!

    Morning

Well isn't it warm ☀️ today! So glad I took yesterday & today off work!

I wanted to cook some chicken so before I nipped to the shops this morning, I had oven on at 7am as there's no way I would be able to stand heat if I did it this afternoon.

I've been to Aldi and replenished my store cupboard of tins & jars, Have some rhubarb to chop and freeze later today and that'll mean there is literally no room left in the freezer once that's in

so....seeing as it's the 1st July tomorrow I'm going to go aslong as possible without going near a supermarket. It's 6 weeks to my fortnight off work...wonder if it's possible to go that long???

    Hello all

Hope everyone is well. I have been taking the Old Style board name in vain this afternoon. Someone on the other boards thought £177 a week spend on 2 adults and 2 children for food would be hard to reduce. Have directed them to you delightful ladies ( and possibly the odd gent - sorry boys, no offence!)

Oooh pm2326 I like a challenge! I'm planning to only buy fresh milk, fruit and veg ( bake my own bread) for the whole of July. Did big shop yesterday (£50) and will use existing stores to assist. Maybe I could go six weeks ( cannot find a rubs chin thoughtfully emoji!)

I drink UHT milk and have enough in cupboard for 3 months...I buy it part of bulk online delivery to save me carrying it!

Fruit wise I bought tangerines this morning, but I also have tinned pineapple, frozen raspberries, blackberries, rhubarb and cherries.

Veg/salad items could be the only thing I need, but I could call into Asda on route to work if needs be, that way I will only buy what I need and not spend £20+ on stuff I don't need, alternative is I go to the grocers on a Saturday morning, which I admit is only a 10 minute walk away and I very rarely use them :o

Bread, I have 2 weeks worth of wraps & half a loaf of bread in freezer. Could make own if needs be as have a bread mix in cupboard aswell as yeast and flour.

You are better sorted than I. I've never been sure about UHT. I only really use milk for coffee and cereal unless I'm baking. Not sure whether I would taste the difference ( ooh, sorry, not advertising for sainsbugs honest!) I have some tinned fruit but not loads. I think I have found it easier to control spending when I only need a few specific things like fruit veg and milk. Meal planning has also made things cheaper, as well as my new devotion to the temple of Lid!

Good luck, I am a shamefully irregular poster, I will try to use the challenge to post updates!!

    thanks for the inspiration pm2326

  • Hi everyone! Just a quick post to check in and show my face!

I have had two instances today where I could've bought something for the sake of it but didn't so feeling very happy! Firstly, I just bought a lot of bird seed (at a great price) and wanted to buy a container to put it all in. I thought about it and realised that my nearly empty current bird seed is a resealable sturdy plastic bag so I got home and decanted it all into there with no need to buy another plastic pot!

I also went into Boots because I wanted to buy another one of my favourite body sprays (even though I have another in the cupboard!). I picked them up, walked around the shop and realised that not only could I not be bothered to queue but I HAVE ANOTHER IN THE CUPBOARD - WHY AM I BUYING MORE?! So put them down and left!

I did FINALLY get my hair cut today after 14 months and it is the best priced salon that I've found (and a local business!) so I'm feeling very good today!

I hope all is well with you all and hugs to those that need them!
  • Evening everyone

    Hope you're all doing well!

I just did my finances for this month and was doing ok. Basically spent almost all of my salery, but a part of it will come back from my sister as I paid for our holidays and she'll pay me back this week.

Food has been okish, could have been much better and will attempt to spend less this month. Meals out had been quite high, but I've also been out quite often. Oh and spent loads of money on second hand books.... But over all it was quite ok for the first half of the year

Tomorrow I'll have a meeting at work at 7.30 in the evening. We close at 4.30, but with travelling time and so on it makes not much sense to go home so I'll go into town instead to pick up a birthday present for a friend and will proabably just sit on a park bench and read for the rest of the time. Will pack some vegs so that I'll only need a sandwich for dinner.

So, will not go for a walk!

    Have a nice evening everyone!

re UHT milk I too use it as I find it lasts longer than fresh milk and I can taste no differance between fresh and UHT.I only have it mainly in tea and on cereal now and again, so a 6 pack of 1 litre boxes last me ages. I too am off on my hols 6 weeks this saturday and am going to see if I can resist spending very much in July.I have a small shop to get tomorrow !st July ,just a few odd and ends really I have lots of fresh fruit and veg and salad stuff and quite a lot of rice/crispbread as I don't eat bread.Fingers crossed I can spend as little as possible and just work my way through the fridge/freezer for most of July.Very hot one today and tomorrow I am hoping not to stick my head outside the door as its far too warm for me ,being fairskinned and I burn very easily.I shall dig out my Uvistat cream as its pretty good at keeping me safe from the suns rays.
Quiz night was good tonight ,great fun, even though we only came forth.RFL fund is building and DD and I are up to £300 in total already, only 11 more days until the race, hope its not as hot as today or we will melt
