    Ahoy there!

Now able seaperson Lynplatinum is back on deck!!

Did I spend too much on me brewery tour. Nope - stuck to within my budget!! Did I drink rather a lot? :o Not my fault people kept on buying me drinks - cos I d bought them ones or done them the odd favour it would have been rude not to :beer:

    :rotfl:

revoltingly I dont suffer with hangovers so on Sunday (but not driving until 2pm to ensure that I was safe and legal to drive even tho I always feel ok - sorry :p ) I went to a Cabaret night my son was putting on in Northampton. It was in the community place again and the acts got paid in drinks (since many were driving that was not expensive) and the entrance was £4 to enable locals to afford to come and hear poetry/music/dance (rock music - indian dancing/ belly dancing/ poetry from the Bard and former Bard of Northampton). Some money was made for the place and all had a good time between 8pm and 12 pm - v good value for money. Well being me - I turned up - washed tables/coffee cups/gave folk lifts and generally helped out. When I went to pay my entrance fee and for my drinks they (not my son - the committee folk who run the place) said 'no - you dont have to pay - you ve been here all afternoon helping out!' So that was NBI - giving of my time bought its own reward!

Also NBI - found some fabric when turning out and am now making bedroom curtains by hand - my friend on the phone today asked why I did not go and buy some from a cheap shop (I may have to leave them when I move but they will improve look of windows to sell house) - then remembering it was me she added 'or a CS' LOL! I said ' not likely when I have free material hanging around and, as i hand sew (machines and I do not get on!) I can do this while watching tv or listening to the radio!' Bless her - she's never needed to NBI nor had a mind to!! but I have converted her to the old CSs!!

More tomorrow - glad folks are OK - hope heat tomorrow doesnt bother you too much! Sailin on!

Hello, Not posted for a bit but realise that we are now half way through the NBI year. I have already encountered the dreaded C word, mostly 'book your christmas party with us' at a few of the city centre venues. The only major spend I've had is on on some good grip boots for winter. It felt a bit odd buying these clumpy boots in the middle of a heatwave but they should last a few years and plus they were reduced in price.

I had to use a photo booth yesterday to get a pic for my travel pass. I think the machine made a mistake. I sat my beautiful self down and out popped some photos of an ugly git with dark eye circles and 2 chins. I shouldn't be so vain as its only for a pass but bloody hell I look rough.

I'm stocking up on some ultima cat food as Wilkos has it on offer near to where I work. The animals get a bit miffed if I offer them other stuff and apart from groceries and the usual bills, my purse will do its best to remain closed throughout July. Stay safe in the heat folks, I can't tolerate it with having pale skin and rosacea so I have to take special care.

Evening folks, hope the weather is being nice to you tonight.

We had a massive thunder & lightening storm this afternoon, people actually screamed in the office at one point as we heard the loudest bang ever! Tonight is looking decidedly iffy as to whether we'll have a quiet night or if it'll return.

Anyway it's day 1 of my no buying food challenge, I've worked out there are 46 days until my holidays and realistically I know I'll need to buy some fresh things at some point so I'm going to allow myself a maximum of £5 week to buy these.

I've just updated my freezer inventory and created a cupboards/stores inventory and I'm actually shocked at what I have in, I thought I might list them on here but if I say I have 47 separate items listed in the freezer and 102 separate items  in the cupboards (bear in mind I have more than one of at least 75% of the items on these lists) you'll understand why I've dropped that idea!!

Should also point out I've not included my drawer of spices in this list (add another 20+) and there is only me and my cat!

    It's quite embarrassing really :o

My mum and my partner's mum both now think I am taking NBI to too greater extreme as it was my birthday yesterday and I told them I was planning to buy the slow cooker. Separately both then told me that they hoped I would spend my present cash on clothes - I think they are trying to tell me I look frumpy (my description of myself, not theirs).

I am off to see a consultant dietician tomorrow as I have had a lot of problems with my digestion. I am hoping for a lot of support as my food diary shots no links between the different bouts of trouble.

I know I am very overweight but did the locum doctor have to say to me in the first minute that I must lose weight! I had the appointment as I am now suffering from sciatica and couldn't control the pain. I could have and did cry.

So my new plan is to cut back on portion size and buy exotic fruit and veg as my treats. I am too old to blame comfort eating, after all I fill the cupboards.

Sorry for the moan, I really am my own worst enemy.

    Onward to a new day

    Hiya all

Pm2326 - following conversion of cupboards to one (large) shelf  I have had to review what carp I usually keep - correction - used to keep- in!! Its just me - not even a cat! I am about 2-3 stone overweight  and could do with loosing it!! i have some stuff all lined up to give to my son and his/my friend in Nhampton - who are both cooks! For example - chilli oil - i bought it to try it - didnt like it (too hot) but kept it 'just in case' Case rarely comes!!! I have thrown out all kinda stuff too way out of date even for me!!! :D

Pauline - I know what you mean - the bad habits of a lifetime creep up on us and we dont realise what eating habits we have got into. And exercising bad habits! How did I get this uncomfortable size?? Somewhere along the way we stop treasuring ourselves and only allow spoiling ourselves with food! Was looking thro old photo albums trying to identify when it stared happening to me - it would seem that it was when my marriage started to go awry :(. You can see me balloon over the years - so sad. I gonna try to do something about it too - a friend of mine goes to Slimm!in W!rld and has lost a lot but I dont do well in competitive environments :p. there s an old style weight loss thread on here - im gonna follow it and see if that helps. Good luck and if you dont want to publicly post feel free to pm me and keep me updated on how you get on.

Well apart from food, the no spending is sort of going to plan, had a new fuse box put in today and the old light with ring heater took out and replaced with a normal light in the bathroom, but we saved up for it to be done and it's one more job off the list, just in time for the storm's to test the box out, what fun.
Spending on food should start to go down from now on, started picking tomatoes from the greenhouse today, and I'v got quite a few plant's for just the 2 of us, and neighbour is giving us lettuce from their alotment so salad is getting done quite a bit.

I use the normal Ald! powder not the colour. I can't use any liquid because of DS's eczema. Surf is the worst powder for eczema. I really can't afford ecova and that is liquid anyway will not risk it.
I took a tip off these forums and bought 20 kilos of non bio washing powder for £18 free postage from eBay. It's lasted ages and really good quality. They also send samples. HTH

Good Morning everyone very warm already although thunder and rain forecast.mick the gardener comes this morning to cut the lawn and a bit of weeding.I shall make sure I have a large jug of cold squash for him in the fridge.
NBI at all if I can help it for the next few weeks now as its only 43 days until our holidays (not that I'm bothered of course :):):))So I shall do a small inventory of what fresh food I have and work my menus around them.Mostly it looks like fresh fruit and plenty of salad stuff. One of the quiz night ladies gave me a bag of tomato's as she was going on holiday,so they will get used up:)So far I haven't used any of my July budget for food shopping yet ,that is sitting in my purse and hopefully it will stay there until at least the middle of next week.I am hoping my Dd will let me have my car back next week as it will be the 6 weeks up since my op.,no doubt it will need diesel :) as I think she has used it a few times, but I don't mind as she has been running around for me as well :)
Right time to go and have a good rummage through the fridge and see what sorts of things I can use up first before buying any more :)
Have a good NBI day chums

  • I've just realised I haven't been on here for ages! Sorry everyone. I'm getting a little bit back on track, have saved 53% of my target but lent money out again (this seems to be my downfall unfortunately). I am seeing some of my money back though - not much but its a start.

I've been doing quite well so far this month - only spends you would call unnecessary was the £11.25 I forked out for skeins for next years birthday presents, but I did find them a lot cheaper than I have been paying up till now (72p - 40p).I've only got two t shirts left to stitch now, and I've saved the remnants of the soluble canvas so that I can do something for myself afterwards. After this I won't be buying any more cross stitch stuff for a while, as I have to finish the five patterns I have in my stash first.

Oh, I did have to buy another pair of work trousers as the broken chair at work tore another one. That's three pairs I've bought this year. At least it finally means they are replacing the damn thing.

Hope everyone else is doing ok with the not buying. It's hard at times but it seems to get easier with time.

Is your £60 per month budget just for food or does it include cleaning products, washing powder, deodorant, shampoo etc?
I am amazed at your budget as I live on my own and probably spend £35-£40 per week. Mind you, in my defence, I do take a packed lunch to work every day (work full time) and have two of my grandchildren to dinner twice a week (after school) as my daughter works until 8pm twice a week.
My purse only come out on a Saturday when I go shopping and I never spend anything the other 6 days of the week!

I am in awe of you achievements :T
