hiya All
Well done Picklepot!!! This thread really does make us all retrain our brains to really look at what is on offer! We are not daft - we were just trained by advertising! This is an example I use to explain 'subliminal learning'. What colour is Tes!os? What colour is Sainsbugs? What colour is M+S? Who taught you these? No one you learnt it by continuous exposure to this information. We have been thus trained to spend while believing we ve got a bargain. Once found that a 'special offer' on coffee (complete with colourful shelf label) worked out to be more expensive than 2 of the smaller packs (if you compared it gram for gram!)
On hols for next week but will try to keep up !Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

Good Morning all, wide awake at silly o'clock this morning .It will be worse next week once the clocks change, as once its light I am awake
:):) still and early bird and all that:)
I shall have a good breakfast before I set off for the last food shop of the month, won't be tempted by the stuff then:):)
Hope you all have a good and frugal day,0 -

Ocean dreamer, I have done a few courses on future learn, and have found them very interesting. I will be starting a new one this coming Monday. They are as interactive as you want to be in them, you can learn when you have the time, and if you miss a week ts still there to catch up. Importantly they are all free which must be good. Give one a go, if it's not for you, stop and look for another!
Have good evenings all

Can't add anything extra to what Bexter has said except there is no pressure. If you find it to much you just stop :-)
The only downside is that there is no face-to-face contact with people although there is a forum and you can interact on that, but as I'm not looking for that aspect and am only wanting to expand my knowledge over a cup of tea, it's perfect for me.Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

I never buy anything without checking the unit price and comparing that. Very annoyed this week to find not only was my usual coffee not in stock but they were all priced in different units.
DS saw my puzzlement and worked them all out before I complained they were all measured differently. Offers often work out more expensive if you compare the unit price.0 -
I have spent precisely 50p today on a book which isn't in the library system (and would cost more than 50p to get sent to my branch if it was) and which I've been looking for, for several months. Joy!
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hello all, I haven't posted much recently but am still reading along and staying on board the good ship NBI!
Just wanted to encourage anyone who fancies doing a Futurelearn course to jump in and have a go. I used to do OU courses until they put the fees up to unaffordable levels, and I've missed doing them. So far I've done Futurelearn courses on Richard III, Managing my Money (!), Forensic Science... As dND said, if you sign up for one and find it's not your cup of tea, you can just stop.Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.Oliver Sachs 20150 -
Hi All
NSD today , went to Aldis yesterday. Normally I stop at the Newsagents and Buy two mirrors for the vouchers. Yesterday I brought just the one. I then got my shopping and added a second paper to the trolley. My shop came to just over £40. I intend to use the next lot of vouchers next week. We have had a trying time lately as DD has had to have several teeth removed and her first brace fitted . So I will need to stock up on pasta, jellies yoghurts. I didn't buy everything on my list last time and I will need more washing powder and cleaning stuff. Tomorrow I have to take back my library book, I also intend to stock up on stamps before the price rise on Monday. DD has to have an orthodontic tooth brush so I need to get that as well.0 -
I've managed to pay off another credit card, a loan and an HP agreement this week so feeling really pleased with myself :T
This leaves me with 2 loans which add up to £3000 and I'm going to try and clear them by August  so it's time to tighten the belt again. Have gone through DD's and cancelled any for the loans etc and have also cancelled magazine subs...realised I flick through mags, put them on table then don't bother looking at them again so no point me getting them anymore.
Saying that I went out for a meal after work last night and spent £20 ...first time I've been out since January 2014 so I think I'll forgive myself this once :rotfl:
Have also called into Aldi this morning on the way to mums as wanted to get some of the pork and Turkey steaks in the new meat offer, ours always sells out quick, got there at 11am and they only had 2 packs of pork steaks left...bought a few other bits but only spent £11. Also called into pet store and bought £10 of cats treats but these should last a month.
Just remembered have a hair appointment on Thursday so that's £10 gone but can't think of anything else I need to buy.
Hoping this means I can stay away from the shops for a bit and save some cash towards the loans...wish me luck0 -
I'm going to be spending soon, and I'm not going to feel guilty about it. There are two reasons for this; the first is I completed one of my tasks, and the second is I'm not spending any money from my budget as I got an unexpected bonus from work! So far I've bought two tickets to Plymouth for Monday (fancied a trip somewhere, and have taken money out already so I don'taccidentally go over budget) and a Toast n Egg for 26 quid instead of 40. I'm hoping that having eggs in the morning before work will make me feel less tired, and also stop me snacking too much. I'm also planning on finally getting some new glasses, as an eye test is sorely overdue. I get free eye tests through work, and will go through Glasses Direct for the glasses. I have also spent 10.06 for food for work next week.0
