Try looking in the local library for 'knit and natter' groups. There is one I go to once a fortnight (even though I have been knitting for well over 60+ years:)) but we all enjoy meeting up and we have a cuppa and a biscuit and a chat while we are all clicking away The inexperienced ones soon get confidence from the rest of us, and we swap patterns, or just knit squares for a local charity. The library I go to isn't the big one in my village, but a smaller 'satellite one in Hempstead about 3 miles away The small libraries need 'footfall' or they will be closed, so the little one has lots of interest groups going to keep it open. My bigger library where I live will stay open as it has a greater amount of people using it. I also go to the smaller one for 'Book Club ' once a month. In our area its a case of use it or lose it. Medway council are tightening their purse strings as every council has to at the moment.
As another poster said its not so much NBI, but not spending it, I have been shopping from my own store cupboards quite a bit this month, and only been food shopping twice.I am using up what I had bought originally to use.Its an excellent way to 'de-clutter' after all it was bought to eat in the first place:)
By adapting what I already have instead of buying more I have cut right back on spending. At the end of this month what left over cash in in my food purse I will put into my separate savings account towards my family holiday in August.I almost go tempted last saturday to buy a food processor in JL but Dd turning up for coffee meant I didn't have time to get to Bluewater and back so by the time she had gone home the temptation had passed .
I do have a food mixer anyway and a a jug blender, it was a case of surfing and looking at the website !!! very dangerous thing to do as it does make you want to spend so no more 'browsing' for me:):)
As we are almost at the end of the first quarter of the year I would think I have saved quite a bit as I am very rarely actually near a shop unless its to buy food and have found it far more interesting to be doing other things either indoors or at different clubs that I go to instead.
Today I am out to lunch with the Luncheon club (paid for from my 'Happy Cash Stash' account.
Tomorrow morning I am off to a sociology class that is run by U3A. Friday I am at a history class.Lots of interest groups that I belong to and no where near a shop:):)

TillyTrotter - I hadn't caught wrote you wrote about your little cat, sorry to hear your news2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Thank you all for your condolences for my cat. It is indeed very hard losing a pet. We had this one for 10 years, he was a rescue cat who became attached to our other cat and we just kept him. I keep looking for him at the kitchen window or where his bowls were, expecting him to be waiting there.
This is a tight month shopping wise and I'm going to fail keeping the shopping to £200, doesn't help that I've just spent £3 on sugary junkIt's been a long time since I've done it and feel guilty now. Oh well onwards and upwards I suppose.

Hi chums, not caught up yet but thought I would post before I forget.Went to Aldeee today, they had ski wear massively reduced.£4.99 for ladies and mens ski coats.I did consider one as they are such a bargain for a good winter jacket but I already have a good winter jacket.May be of interest to someone though.
We had an offer on the house yesterday but turned it down as its 20k less than the asking price.I am in no rush to move.
Also yesterday the bathroom sink started leaking, was only fitted a year ago.Called the plumber who replaced a fitment and charged me £20.Top man.
Youngest is off school with a raging cold,I have never seen her so poorly before.
Off gadding again tomorrow, just going for the ride whilst Mr V goes to a meeting.

Hiya
Tillytrotter - dont worry we all go a little stir crazy occasionally and in times of upset and distress it is very forgivable. I am sure Capt. Slowdown and the crew will help you stay on the good ship NBI and you will soon find your way back into calmer and more rational spending waters!
I havent been particularly NBI today but my veg box came today just as I was teak oiling my garden bench. 'What a lovely bench' says the really kind delivery lady (when I broke my leg last summer she brought the veg right into the house and always asked if there was anything she could do to help) 'I m looking to buy one - where did you get it' At this point I realised that I bought it 20 years ago and that the independent garden centre I got it from has now closed down. 'Is it really that old?' she said. well yes it is!! It made me realise that part of NBI is also maintaining things over the years! Got me thinking how long I have had other things - which have lasted because I looked after them. How about you folks??? What have you looked after well so that you didnt need to go out and buy another one???Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

Thanks JackieO, I will pop in to the library and take a look. It won't be til after Easter now as I have commitments and a holiday coming up but great idea.
I'd also like to know what your history class covers. I think the U3A has revolutionised retirement and frankly the whole set up needs a medal. There are so many fab clubs etc it makes the world of difference to many people. Do tell what you're up to.
Kind regards

Tilly,so sorry to hear about your cat,the fury devils leave a gap when they are gone.
What do I look after? On thinking I realize I look after everything.Clothes are washed well and mended when needed, shoes are cleaned and stored in boxes.Furniture and appliances are restored if needed and well looked after, same for garden and even plants in it!The only thing I could do better at is the car,I hardly ever wash it or vacc it out.
Tried snowing here last night,a beautiful frost this morning.
I hereby promise that I will finish the blasted wardrobe door this week!!!!
