NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

Hi eandjsmums
Just a thought for you and for others too!!! If you are doing a big shop and I mean BIG shop and you think it might come to £80. Why not get 2 papers, hence 2 coupons and split your shopping at the checkout. You can ask the till operator if they will sub total the amount for you so you know where you are cost wise and don't go over the £40 for each coupon. Although saying that the till monitor gives you a running total amount as items are scanned. Not always easy though to keep your eye on that if you are on your own and trying to pack. Last time we got 2 coupons and cut them out in the shop and just duplicated some items in our shopping trolley that we regularly buy. So an £80 shop would cost you £70 and save you £10.
We allow ourselves £50 per week for shopping. But on coupon week we spend £80, the 2 coupons @ £5 each save us £10 so total costs comes to £70. Then the following week we allow ourselves £30 and not £20 so we can have some treats that week. So in theory the 2 x £5 vouchers are used for our free treats. Confused??? So am I after reading this back to myself and I thought it was so simple!!!!!:rotfl:
Anyway I am sure you get the picture!!! I hope!!!!

Good morning all. Sorry to hear about the cat Tillytrotter1.
I was going to post something I put on grabbit this am but penguinofdeath has inspired me just to tell you if you need posh Easter eggs go to grabbit today! I posted this first thing and the first five replies were moaning about whether cash back and discount would work! Honestly! I was a bit cross for a minute, then I just laughed as it is a sad reflection of society the insatiable appetite to spend. It's no wonder fewer people post on grab it than they used to do. Don't worry about thanking people, just whine about whether quidco AND a discount t code will work!!
Rant over! Have good days all
Bexster.
P.S I am not partaking of the deal I posted. Very much NBI0 -
Jackie your History group sounds great
Been very frugal today, dyed a pair of my now grey jeans back to black and am very happy with themsaves a good £20. Got the A@di voucher from the paper today and it can be used up to the 2nd April. Will stock up with store cupboard stuff at end of the month.
Did check out printing vouchers for some stuff but as cost of ink is so expensive I didn`t bother.
Will spend a happy hour(s) looking at pinterest boards for crafting ideas.Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.0 -
Dear Captain slowdown and shipmates
Forgiveness sought as I was nearly taken in by pirates this morning...
I received an email from a on line pet food supplier where I only ever buy my pet food on offer in bulk and no postage. Urgent email said if I don't use my 500 points by 31 march they will not be valid. Oh what to do? order pet food? but I don't need pet food. Suppose I could store it....and I will have to order £30 to avoid postage..do I need anything else? maybe cat litter??... ..dither dither...STOP
What does 500 points mean??? well it looks like a free gift which you attach to your order..ok no free gift I want particularly as im decluttering...ah small tin of cat food I can get for 500 points.
Penny dropped...a small tin (are they kidding???) of gourmet cat food which cat wont miss because he's never had it. It retails at £1.30 if I ever did get the need to rush out and buy it.
Nearly fell for it but..
No not buying it!!!!0 -

This just goes to show how easily we can all be taken in with these Special Offer promotions that seem to overload our email IN boxes. I think the senders are relying on the fact that we quickly rush through our emails and often don't have time time to think about whether what they're offering is a genuine bargain or not. The great British consumer only has to read the words "Special Offer" and they are parting with their cash at a rate of knots, whether they need it or not.
We all need to get into a different mindset, recognising the difference between "want" and "need".0 -
Well I recieved a couple of vouchers from W&rose today, and I am going for a nosey tomorrow as its my last shop of the month so I can get £3.00 off lamb plus £6.00 off a £30.00 shop seems good to me I don't buy basics in there very often, but their special offers are usually quite good.ATM they have Aberdeen Angus Beef mince at half price, plus 6 lamburgers for £2.00 the lamburgers will make me three meals so if I get two pack at a total of £4.00 I can use my £3.00 off voucher and have six meals for a pound (I should be running the exchequer:):):))
I had an aldee voucher popped through the door this morning by a neighbour I really don't need it this week ,but I'll hang on until next Thursday, and if I need to top up any basic stuff I will then,if not I'll pass it on to someone in the shop It will only save me cash if I have to spend the £40.00 and I feel I may run out of space in my freezer if I do that I am already playing freezer tetris at the moment:):)
Businesses are doing their utmost to get some more 'footfal' through the tills but I have a feeling that all this belt-tighening is causing the big SM to start to worry. There is a saying that 'you can only fool some of the people some of the time ' and I think this is now happening as even my local Tosspots Metro store seems to be very quiet when ever I have walked past. hardly suprising really as they stock few value brands and locals now think of it as a 'corner shop' only to be used in dire emergencies:):)
I think their birds are definitely coming home to roost and treating customers as though they are daft, especially women who are pretty price savvy nowadays is really silly0 -
Hello chums,
I have spent £8 of my birthday money on 2 bra's from tescs. They were in the sale and were only £4 each when I got to the till.Sounds like excessive underwear purchasing but I am still slowly loosing weight.Gone from 42 to 36 in the boobs. And I do not mind one bit.I cannot comprehend why people would want enormous boob implants.
Got rid of 2 coats from the wardrobe as they are huge on the shoulders and make me look like an American footballer.I need to do a carboot sale pdq.The good thing about doing carboot sales where I live is they are always very busy as there are masses of tourists every weekend.
I am home alone all day tomorrow,I will press on with my diy.I have sanded and filled again today and still need to do that several more times before I can begin to paint a colour on.I will also begin to sew the back on the patchwork tomorrow.Exciting times !

Ashamed to say I haven't been on here for quite a while but it's inspiring to see that others are doing so well. I haven't done too badly with buying - or rather not buying - things but I have a real weakness for buying food! This is undoubtedly where most of my money goes. Anyway, as someone mentioned, nearly a quarter of the year has gone, so it seems a good time for me to take stock and start again. This weekend i shall do a freezer inventory and meal plan from it which seems like a good start because I have a ridiculous amount of stuff in the freezer. Btw could someone who knows explain how futurelearn works? Some of the courses look really interesting but i wondered how people had found them?0

Recieved an email offer for a huge reduction on a product I am interested in, but when I clicked the link, it was out of stock, so no spending today. It just wasn't meant to be :staradmin: June NSD's 2/19:staradmin: Sealed Pot #460 :staradmin: £/day £185 saved :staradmin: W.S.C 2015 #45 :staradmin: F.P. 2/24 months :staradmin:0

Evening all
Ocean dreamer, I have done a few courses on future learn, and have found them very interesting. I will be starting a new one this coming Monday. They are as interactive as you want to be in them, you can learn when you have the time, and if you miss a week ts still there to catch up. Importantly they are all free which must be good. Give one a go, if it's not for you, stop and look for another!
Have good evenings all
