NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday
Comments
-
Evening everyone!
I have had my first NSD in what feels like forever - I took lunch to work and meal planned for tonight, I have just managed to sort out a £5 voucher for a sm and will have another to follow soon (I get the vouchers when I fill the car with fuel) so I'm going to save these and buy easter eggs with them so I can tick then off my list of things to buy this monthloving the planning and money saving I can do - we have £2000 saved towards fees and moving costs and with careful spending we can hopefully save all we need for moving house.
Have a good night everyone xxLiving the simple life0 -
Just checking in - hangers turned first thing this morning - as if I would forget? Or perhaps it was the reminder on my google calendar?
I have given up trying and failing to remember things so I am spending some time transferring reminders to help me out. This may reduce my stress levels too.
The holiday plans are going well and I have now booked Barcelona in April and Arras in May - my partner is coming up to a very big birthday so these little breaks are designed to take his mind off the number. I managed to find ferry crossing and five nights in a gypsy caravan for £255 so I am really pleased I can pay it out of the savings from the last couple of months.Don't get it perfect - Get it goingBetter Than Before0 -
Sold some of my zumbawear on gumtree for £100. Gave them a good deal, they got a lot for their money, will put what I have left on ebay.
I'm doing fine supermarket shopping wise, helps that due to all the rubbish that's going on in the background I have no oomph apart from to workout, work and sleep.
My fitness classes are still going well, won't be jetting off to the Bahamas any time soon, but I broke even for so long, less than that sometimes, even though Im in a small profit now its still profit.
Between a rent rebate I got last year as I had overpaid and the ebay/gumtree sales, Ive paid for flights to Spain in June, plus my accommodation.
As I said before, Im not saving as such due to being on a relatively low income, but Id estimate that Im £100 a month better off due to my shopping habits, havent totted up last months supermarket spending/fruit stall/misc, but would estimate it would have come in around 60 pounds for me, the felines and some stuff for my mums felines/rabbit as well.
Ive also still got a fairly full freezer as well. I also bought my mum the Marie Kondo book, Im not following it to the letter but I did organise my clothes, make up and toiletries. My mum has sorted out 6 bags of rag and saleable stuff yesterday (her first day at it). I got some cast offs from her (I dont think you are supposed to do that), but its all going to be stuff I'll use and stuff I could never afford (given as gifts to her but she gets gifts through her job at certain times of the year and ends up with far too much stuff she can't always get through).
Im also wearing things I havent in a long time. A pair of trainers bit the dust, fell apart on me last week at bootcamp so I dug out a pair from the cupboard and Im also wearing a hat I got from natural collection years ago but havent worn it.
Ive got some of my clothes that are too big for me on ebay as well. I bought a dress from oxfam second hand, was a size 16, had bought one from the same brand, also size 16 and it fitted me, even at my biggest, but this one wouldn't go over my knees. I thought Id try it on the other day, it not only fits me, but its too small now (I think my knockers are starting to disappear). Ive never worn it, so its going on ebay along with 2 dresses that don't give me joy a la Marie Kondo.0 -
Hiya All
firstly so admire your strength in turning stuff out!! Today I went through my sash of handbags and other bags. 2 went in the rubbish as they were unrepairable and 2 are going into the 3 chances box - 1st chance e!ay; 2nd chance car boot; 3rd chance charity shop. Only then might they end up in landfill and pollute the planet instead of being re used!
We are not only refusing to make large corporations even richer than we have to we are also doing our bit to save the planet by re cyling stuff!!! brilliant - i really enjoy this thread with its support and ideas and inspiration! thanks Slowdown for starting it!! :0
On that point - can someone (Slowdown?) tell me how to officially subscribe to the thread? I have found the control panel but what next plse???
Also Edwink - how do I find this turning round hanger challenge - it sounds intriguing? I ve had a little look but failed to find it.
Thanks folks!! Have a day of calm thinking waters tomorrow!Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)

Hi Lynplatinum
To subscribe to this thread you need to go to the top of this page and click on THREAD TOOLS and in the drop down click on subscribe to this thread!! I hope that is some help. If you get stuck just give me a shout and I'll explain it again.!!!
On the subject of the back to front hanger challenge. I own up it was me who started it. I read it somewhere years ago, I think!! All you need to do is turn everything that is hanging in your wardrobe the wrong way round and as you wear items you put them back the right way round! Then in a years time everything that is still hanging the wrong way round obviously has not seen the light of day over the four seasons. So you then have to ask yourself do you really need that item. Could you perhaps sell it on e*bay, pass it on to someone who will make use of it or give it to a charity shop. That's the idea anyway!! We are starting this challenge throughout March!!!
I hope this is of some help!!!

Go for it Katkin, if people are asking for them then there is a demand for them and they must think highly of your skill, and they do sound lovely and warm, the best thing I did last year was join the holistic centre and use the training I love.
Thank you for your encouragement and support, its greatly appreciated. My confidence isn't great at the moment but surprisingly my creativity is on the up.
I'd also love to join a holistic centre, its something that deeply interests me as is all round wellbeing - I'm really pleased you love it and obviously do a lot of good with it.
No spending here - yet, though I noticed to loo roll is down to the last one grrrr....that's visitors for you haha0 -
This thread really makes you think about 'buying' things and because of it I have just saved nearly £250
My double glazed windows are now 13 years old but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the windows at all and the only problem I have is that the seals between the frame and windows has become brittle and stiff over time. I called the window company who installed and after several sharp intakes of breath and a 'ooohhhh, that's not something we can arrange over the phone, we need to visit to make sure they can be replaced and we charge £45 call out charge' I managed to get them to give me a verbal idea of how much it would cost and they said £280, including call out.........well, I nearly fell off my chair but thought, they need doing so I will have to start saving for it. Fast forward to yesterday and after spending several days researching it, opening the windows, checking the rubber seal to see if they are easily removed (neighbours must think I have lost the plot), I have bought replacement window seal for the pincely sum of £38 including postage! :j
Thank you all for posting, without this thread I probably wouldn't have thought about 'doing it myself' so I am eternally grateful to you all :beer:0 -
Momentsofsanity - well done you, that is a superb achievement. It really is quite fascinating to read about the effect this thread is having on us all and the more mindful spending that is taking place.
I have made an overpayment on the mortgage today and will need to pop out to the post office later for business purposes. Other than that, we are indoors with the heating on - snow in March, its madness! xxMFW

The confidence was not good for me at the time, even though I'v been qulifed for 15 years, it took a back seat as parent's, step- parent's and in-laws declined and I did most of the everyday things, like shopping/washing/cleaning and gardening, as well as go to work and be a carer for OH......and then bossy madam, furry owner turned up, Dad was the last one to go, about 18 months ago, I was asked to join the centre when it first opened, but you never get time back and I spent it wisely[sp?], then an opening came up in the centre and they asked me again, talked with OH and said 'if I don't try how will I know if I'm realy good seeing as all I do now is you and neck's and shoulder at work for free', well it turn's out I am good enough for people to pay me, best of all, 2 of 'em are qulifed in the same thrapy and keep coming back.......well it is hard trying to massage your own back, the elbow don't want to bend that way, and my confidence still go's up with each booking, so don't let low confidence stop you from finding your 'makes my soul sing with happiness' job/craft or calling, we realy can be are own worse enimies when it comes to doing things we like but think 'I realy should get x,y or z' done instead, like the cancer add says 'let the house stay mucky for a day'. So after that essay from me, good luck me duck, as we say in deepest, darkest, Derbyshire.
And it's shopping tonight, got my list and heaven help OH if he try's to go off it.£71.93/ £180.000
