Cheese mites? Extra protein, my dear.
Googled 'em and they look small enough not to worry too much about so I think I shall adopt this philosophy unless my cheese actually starts packing its spotted hanky and vacating the fridge of its own accord
This weekend I've saved myself £150.96 by cancelling a work subscription to a professional organisation that I no longer really need, and another £124.00 by cancelling a plumbing emergencies contract - this one I'm going to let the current contract lapse and then sign up again as a new customer for a couple of quid for the whole year. So £275 saved over the year :j:
On my shopping list for this week was handwash, as I had none left...but I do have a ton of shower gel...and as it's probably all the same anyway I'm just going to decant some shower gel into the handwash pump and use that instead. So one more thing off the shopping list for the foreseeable future!Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.Oliver Sachs 20150 -

(Sorry, Am having a job to work out the quote thingy)
Hi Happy
If you want to reply quoting from someone's post all you need to do is press on QUOTE and when the page loads you will see that what you want to quote about is already on the screen!! All you need to do is delete any of the text that is not relevant to your quote.!! As long as you leave the QUOTE still at the very beginning of the text written and the QUOTE still at the very end of the text. What is left should be what you want to quote on!! Then underneath write what you want say and then send it!! When your post appears you will see that the post you quoted on is in light blue whereas your text has a white background!!
Confused!! So Am I now!! Not sure I explained that very well!! Strong painkillers for my back is my excuse!! I do feel a bit GaGa if I am honest!!!:rotfl:

Thanks all for the blender advice, I've had a quick look on argos and you can pick up decent looking ones for a tenner so when I'm next inclined I'll pick one up.
Especially as I found out tonight that EDF are giving us some money back on our energy DD so that will be a nice unexpected extra0 -
Clove,thats it clove of garlic,doh.
Been out to a comedy night, freeby with Mr v's work.Very good 2 blokes on,one was deaf, cannot remember their names and it was only an hour ago!
MIL has been on the phone complaining about me n youngest. She thought I was SUPPOSED to be doing some gardening and dd didnt offer her a sweet. We don't need to visit again.Very sad state of affairs but life is too short.Poor Mr V will have to do it all by himself.
Drawers completed, carrier of clothes gone(in garage)I have an empty drawer which is handy for maneuver.
Tomorrow I will drag the last wardrobe door out of the garage and start by glueing parts of it back together.
I am itching to get in the garden but the weather has been awful, sleeting most of today.
The patchwork is also on the final straight.I just won't know what to do with myself when these long term jobs are complete.

Hiya Folks
Re Garlic - if it looks as if it is starting to go off - roast whole bulb wrapped in foil with a little thyme (while you are cooking something else) any temp will do but GM6 (electric 200) for an hour or GM 4 (electric 150) for an hour and a half. When cool peel and immediately immerse in jar of olive iol - completely covering cloves. Fish out one clove at a time with a VERY clean fork. This will make garlic last for about 3 months.
Re Blenders - would not be without my stick blender - the jug bit that often comes with is useful - cos you can use it to make hummus; guacamole etc
Cleaning - I am a fan of Star drops too!!! Also Bicarbonate of soda is really good for getting stuck and greasy bits off ovens and loostening limescale. If there is a lot of limescale then wrap a cloth soaked in white vinegar round the thing overnight - it will soften the limescale (dont do this on plastic surfaces tho!!)
Wow such an interesting thread!! I am pigging out all over my house at the moment and now it looks a mess with little piles of stuff all over the shop - ebay/car boot/ CS!!!/ Friends!! LOL as it is irritating me - hopefully it will all soon be gone!! Have so much stuff for CS that am not waiting till after Car B but will take load no 1 down there this week!! Will also scrounge loads of coffee in next couple of weeks delivering stuff to friends while waiting for e-bay bids to come to fruition (or not!)
Anyway keep on not buying it folks - most of the time you can make it up!!Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

Hello again shipmates
Hope all of you are well
Life has changed so much recently, lost my Grandad and been mega busy (no excuse for not posting in here) moved house... In fact a whole relocation down near the sea. Kinda had a bleak month fed up with where I was, knowing when I went back to work I would be working full time and still not earn enough to cover my rent for a house that was pretty grotty (blown plaster in every room, damp, lights not working, cold) and no amount of bleach, steaming cleaning or anything else was going to help, even a coat of paint wasn't making much difference. So technically we have spent a whole lot more these first 2 months of the year that we even knew we would in December. New house is bigger, still the 4 bedrooms but they are crazily sized in comparison, we've gained space downstairs for the kids and best of all it's £400 a month cheaper by the end of the year we will have 'made back' what the move etc has cost, the most annoying thing is having to start again wardrobes and what not wise as they had to be made in the old house and we're not going to come apart and go back together the same, house insurance has halved and car insurance gone down 1/3rd plus a £27 a month drop on council tax. Start a new job next month so the next month and half is as tight as tight can be.
Had a great declutter in amongst it all was crazy how much stuff one house can hold, also showed just how much one thinks they need something when really it's not.
Have to have a look at my washing machine tomorrow silly thing is leaking from underneath, not badly but enough to be a bit of a pain.
Without resorting to stupidly priced cleaners what is the best thing to clean painted walls with? House was redecorated prior to our move in apart from the bathrooms and both have grubby white walls, the Lino which is black also looks like it's ingrained with limescale, my main worry is the paint will blister or bubble up. I would like to do niggly bits on a shoestring as I'm sure whatever school the kids get is bound to be different uniform items to get.
Far too much on a shopping list to get sorted in the week, ds has gone from tiny and shot up in what seems like a week, dd has grown so quickly since December that all the lovely clothing she got for Xmas is nearly outgrown, I was told today to cut feet off baby grows (does this work or do they get tatty)x
Must go and get sleep, and think of many uses for stupid amounts of cardboard hanging round my houseDebt free

The recommended thing to wash walls with is pretty cheap; sugar soap. It's a powder tho, in recent years, you can buy it pre-diluted. Cheaper to buy it dry and use tap water. Sugar soap is what pro decorators have long used to prep walls for repainting but, even if you're not going to redecorate immediately, it's a good way of getting them really clean now.
Wow, what a lot of things you've been through in the past 2 months, big changes. Condolences for the loss of your grandad, too. I expect that you need a moment (or several) to pause and breathe.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
