Karmacat I know this was pages & pages ago, but I thought cinnamon in porridge was a pretty common thing?? I've always done it... but I nearly always put raisins in my porridge too & the two just go together for me! I love cinnamon in my hot chocolate too, makes a nice change... but I leave the raisins out of that!I really don't think I should have to justify it though when she shouldn't be making the comments in the first place.I went with a friend who wanted something and noticed she was on her own at her counter so I went over and said 'Can I please ask you not to make any more comments about me not spending any money'. I had intended to say more, but I couldn't because I was about to cry. She said she wouldn't and that she'd realised yesterday that she shouldn't say anything (and she must have realised I was a bit upset yesterday). She did actually ask me if I was ok today, I'm glad she realised I was upset about it, it might make her engage brain before speaking in future. So, I'm hoping that's the end of it now. I was quite proud of myself as I hate any kind of fall out or confrontation and it's difficult when I think my friends were thinking I should just laugh it off.The main thing is you managed to get her to back off and that is what you wanted her to do. So if you look back at what you did manage to say it was probably enough and you did not have to waste anymore of your time speaking to her about it. I do hope for you that that is the end of it.
Keep your chin up.That woman is not worth it!!!!!!!!

One of my DGS Mikey asked me what life was like in black and white as we had been watching an old film on t.v.
:):)
When my children were primary school age, they used to ask me about 'the olden days' when I was a little girl, especially when they had been learning about the Romans, the Tudors etc at school. I wouldn't have minded, but I was 20 when DS (the eldest) was born :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Hi all!
Having mentioned that this month was going to be extremely tight in terms of money, I'm pleased to say that I have been offered a second job which is within my highly competitive industry! It fits around my current job and although it's a zero hours contract, the extra money is so greatly needed! Feeling quite pleased right now, first day is tomorrow.
Pleased to hear that you managed to have a chat with the woman and hopefully stop the comments, Turtle!0 -
Thank you all, I saw her again today and she actually approached me, apologised and said she'd never meant to upset me. I said we'd just forget it now as long as she didn't make any further comments, so as long as that happens I really think that's the end of it
I didn't end up spending my £3 yesterday as I have an injury and didn't feel like running. On my way to a friends soon though, she's been off work ill for weeks so the ladies on our team at work are going to visit, this will involve ordering pizza or something but shouldn't be a big spend
Thanks for all your support over the coffee woman!0 -
Hi, not posted for a bit but still on the NBI ship as best I can. However, February is turning out to be a bit more costly with the old car needing parts and the quarterly gas/elec bill has arrived. Hopefully March will be a bit calmer.
The coffee-shop woman sounds like one of those people who's mouth is open before the brain has had time to think. Glad you sorted it out Turtle.
I'm having to brush up also on my lifestyle habits. After years of good blood pressure readings I have now been diagnosed as high. Not sure whether its cos of my mum being very ill at the beginning of this year and then my job sacking me off but I have to watch the salt which is everywhere in a lot of food. Got some yellow sticker cheese, mushrooms and lambs lettuce today so will make something with this to go on plain pitta bread.0 -
Hi gals :hello:
Have had a spendy day today! Treated myself to a yankee candle copy, n got various essential toiletries from Boots:DThen treated Mum to a pub meal, which was delish:p
Had a bit of a panic cos the Grandkids new hamster escaped, n went behind the gas fire n into the wall! She luckily appeared 6 hours later for food:eek:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Did weekly shop today!! Even though we do not have weekly grocery shops at Sainsbobs since our new Ald* opened we were given a voucher for £6 off a £30 spend when we purchased petrol. So shopping there came to £30.50 take the £6 voucher off, then deduct £7.50 from nectar our points!! Total spent in there for bits we can not get in Ald* was £17.00. Then on to Ald* to get the rest. £16 there so total £33. We are trying to spend £50 or less a week now so were well pleased with that!!!
Total spend included greens, cucumber, porridge and pasta for the hens!! Not that they are spoilt you understand!!!!:rotfl:
Thank you for those of you that have said you like my little stories about my hens and have asked how little Langley is!!
Little Langley is doing so well!! She is mixing in well with the others although she is still perching quite a bit during the day!! This is not a problem it is just the way she feels safe at times because this is the way she was the only hen that survived the fox attack that killed 16 of her friends. She has taken to perching on the log store shelf and stays there for a while looking down at the others. Most of the time though she is foraging on the ground with them. There is not so much for them to forage on this time of year because since they have eaten most of my lawn (OMG my bowling green) the green stuff is getting in short supply. We buy them greens and cucumbers when they are not growing up the garden as they are good for them. In the summer they have lots of green veg especially cucumbers as we grow all of our own. We also go out for walks picking Dandelion leaves for them as they love them too!!! We pick a carrier bag full at a time and keep them in our outdoor fridge for them to have during the week!! The ducks love the cucumber and dandelion leaves too!!!
Eggs supplies are starting to grow again now as the weather here has been slightly warmer this week!! You can not beat a cheap plate of egg and chips for supper and a homemade bread sarnie full of chips!!! :j Best supper ever!!! That is our reward for having our rescue girls!! Well worth all the effort.
Just a little bit of info for those that are interested in the life of our rescue hens. Previously battery hens they spent the first 2 years of their lives in a cage basically as egg laying machines. They had no real daylight and artificial lights on 24 hours a day. Basically this tricks them in to laying more eggs. All in the name of profit for these so called farmers!!!! When we rehome them they arrive with hardly any feathers because they have pecked each other through lack of space, boredom and frustration. They have never seen a blade of grass let alone eaten some. I won't go in to too much detail but some find it difficult to walk as they have never had any physical exercise because of being stuck in a cage all day. Some come with hardly any feathers and look awful. But, within a month or so they find a new lease of life and start to find some energy, their feathers start to regrow and some of them start to put a little sprint on when they see us!! Within 3 months they are fully feathered, their eyes are brighter and they run around like complete and utter lunatics destroying/eating everything in site!! Sadly, rescue hens only live for around 18 months to 2 years after rescue. This is something we found incredibly hard to deal with!! The high loss rate was heart breaking for us!! But, we picked ourselves up and dusted ourselves off and got on with doing what we love doing best. And that is looking after these little hens that come and retire with us and we give them the best retirement we can possibly give them!! We sell the eggs to our neighbours which raises the money to pay for their feed/straw etc. and any vets bills. So far they have completely covered their costs themselves. Self sufficient hens, HOORAH!!!!
If anyone is thinking of having rescue hens it truly is a very rewarding hobby to undertake. Yes it does come with a rather a lot of cleaning up garden wise for us as they are free range but we would not have them any other way!! Our reward is delicious suppers of egg and chips, omelettes, quiches not to mention good old scrambled eggs on toast!!
Bless them we love them all!!!!!:)
I have rambled on enough so I'm a off to bed as it is rather past my bedtime!!!

Morning all
Jackie, have fun in Ramsgate and say hello to the sea from me. Funny that I only read of these tunnels yesterday for the first time. Did some research on WWII in that area as some background reading yestersay evening.
Edwink, always interessting to read about your feathered friends. Glad Little Langley is happy!
First send this week planned today. Need fresh fruit. Main groceries round tomorrow evening but don't need much. Triplechecked at least as I thought the shopping list was too short to be real. But will have a busy weekend and 2 meals out so will throw all my veg in a pan and make soup for the other 2 meals. So the shop basically only covers 4 meals plus some bits and bobs. No wonder it is short.
