Is anyone saving for a specific reason or is everyone just saving? I'm curious, as I'm contemplating setting myself a target for something I may want to do in two years time.

I'm saving money to pay off the remaining unsecured debts and then put as much as possible into the mortgage... I want to be debt free asap so I can save and then retire early ie within the next 15 years, I don't want to work past 60 if possible

I'm saving for impending redundancy / job loss :(

Thankfully I have no debt and a wee bit of mortgage to pay.
  • I just want to get the mortgage paid off and start planning for retirement. According to the government I am expected to work another 20 years! I don't think so.

Just catching up with the thread. So sorry for your loss Weesmiler, I thought grandparents would be classed as close relatives. Do take care of yourself.

I'm hoping to have 3 nsd's after doing a shop today. Its something I am concentrating on having not had many in January. Also, gone through my clothes and some stuff will need replacing soon as I have the habit of wearing things til they literally fall to bits and are only fit for scarecrows! I hate clothes shopping and own very few garments. I had a leather biker jacket given to me around '92 which got worn so much that the stitching rotted away due to all the patchouli oil I drenched it with for 20 years. There is a dress I have kept in case I may slim into it - 10 years later its still unworn.

Number 92 - Cut dishwasher tablets in half [/QUOTE]

Good money saving thinking going on there 117Pauline.

I have always done this with Clothes washing products!! If liquid I use half the amount and if tablets, like you, I cut them in half. Everything washes just as well!!!

Maybe others on this thread would like to give this a try. No harm at giving it a go and seeing if you are happy with the results!!

Who is up for the challenge????

Edwink how is the new hen? Your birds really do have a good home.

    Hi Vulpix

Thanks for asking!! Little Langley is doing really well as she is mixing in ok with the others. There has been a little bit of pecking at her going on but she can certainly defend herself, which is great!!

Slight problem at the moment is that she is not going up to their hotel when it starts to get dark with all the others. She is waiting by the back door and has started tapping on it with her beak as if to say "mum where are you?" When I open the door she hops inside and chirps away and does not stop!! I say to her "were you waiting for mummy to take you up to bed?" and she carries on chirping. My husband has been in fits of laughter over this!! I did not want to pick her up and carry her up to bed again as she will get used to me doing this. She has to learn to follow the others to find out where to go!! So I just went up the garden hoping she would follow me, which she didn't, so my husband walked behind her to coax her up there. It took a while but once she found the hen coop she ran towards the others and up the steps and in she went. So that was good. Will have to see what happens at bedtime tomorrow!! Been keeping an eye on her today and she spends most of her time perching on either the wheel barrow, one of the garden benches or the opening to the wood store. To be honest I think she feels safer being up higher than the others at the moment as her being up higher was what saved her from the fox that got in and killed her 16 friends. She was the only one that did that so the only one that survived. I am just so glad she has come to live with us here and not where she lived before because she would have been on her own which hens hate. And what with the cold weather as well it is better for them to be together to snuggle up and keep warm during these cold nights. Mind you our girls have night heating because they are not really spoilt, are they?????

    Will update on her progress!!!

I was at my DDs house yesterday after school and was tidying the kitchen up a bit and reallised they had two 95% empty tomato ketchup bottles, plus a half filled one. It looks asthough when a new bottle comes in the boys discard the old one and grab the new one .With my frugal hat firmly on, I decanted the two almost empty ones into the half full one before getting them washed out for the recycling bin.I would estimate there were at least three to four good helpings of ketchup in the bottles,so a squirt of vinegar into each bottle and then by giving it a good shake and then the 'windmill' application (I stand with the bottonm of the lidded of the bottle in my hand and windmill it round until all the ketchup is in one plce ,centrifrugal force :):):))Then carefully pour the resulting saved ketchup into the half filled newest bottle .This has worked for me over the years as I hate throwing bottles out with food still left in them .With jam' normally 20 seconds in the microwave with melt it to the bottom.I just hate to waste anything and sevral tablespoons of ketchup will help out. They always buy the same ketchup anyway so have never noticed how it seems to last longer.:):):)If anyone looked in the window they would think 'Oh poor soul she's lost the plot :):):):) standing there waving a bottle of ketchup around :):):).A squirt of vinegar helps shift almost anything in a jar that you can't reach I have an almost empty jar of red onion chutney which will get the treatment later today as I want all of the remains to go into a casserole that I shall be cooking ,every little helps as they say :):):)
Well looking out of the window it looks like we are going to get a fair dollop of the white stuff and I have the orthodontists to visit later on today with DGS who snapped his brace playing rugby.

I'll be making a beef casserole later in the slow cooker so at least my kitcjhen will be nice and warm and smell yummy by tonight.
Hope everyone keeps wrapped up warm as there is a biteer wind blowing atm
    Take care all

Jackie O I will have to try your bottle method.I leave man traps around the house by balancing bottle on bottle for shampoo, ketchup etc.

Edwink,I already use about 1/4 of recommended washing powder.Rarely is anything actually dirty,if it is I soak in a bucket before washing in the machine.Hmm thinking about it youngests socks get soaked a lot as she will not wear anything on her feet.

Am working at school this afternoon so need to get a bit done before I go.

    Vx
