a quick and easy tea for tonight - Chips and Egg.

Snap we are having the same. One of our favourite meals of the week. Egg and Chips is our once a week treat meal and probably one of the cheapest for us because of our beautiful hens and ducks. Al*i Maris Piper chips are so tasty and relatively cheap too so we don't begrudge buying them even though we grow our own potatoes!!

Glad little pup is running around like a lunatic Candy. Most animals bounce back so quickly after ops. That's great news!!!

Keep up the good work everyone. I love being on board this ship with you all!! We are like one big happy money saving family. Long may it last!!

    Hello fellow shipmates:D

Still spending not a lot. We did purchase a new set of ovengloves as ours had developed rather a nasty hole and Mr GBT burnt his fingers! He's also bought a couple of picture frames from the charity shop to display some photos he's taken and printed off.

Some more rummaging and cleaning in the kitchen cupboards has produced a couple of jars of jelly. I think they're supposed to to with cold meat but they're providing a rather different sandwich filling for my lunch this week. I found a box of lasagne which I never make as the faff factor is too high for me [I cook when I need to not for pleasure] so I'm going to smash the sheets up and use as per normal pasta,

Plans for February include making fudge in the SC, trying out a couple of savoury popcorn flavours and look at some new pancake flavours.

We've been out with our National Trust cards to a local garden to admire the snowdrops this week.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
I'm pleased to say Feb is so far proving very non spend. Have just done 4th NSD so far. Not bad out of 5 days. Did a big stock up yesterday so hoping should carry on NSDing for a while to come.
Pork and beans with rice in the pot for tonight. Chopped up leftover belly pork, tin of toms, an onion & a pepper and plenty of smoked paprika. Just one small boy to put to bed first.

I much prefer things that you can judge how much to use like washing clothes liquid. I am just about finished some persil washing tabs which I tried because they were on a money back guarantee but I hate it that I can not reduce the amount I use. I simply do not believe that we need half as much as company's tell us.

OK so here is Number 91 Does this really need washing?

Now before anyone cringes, I am not convinced that all clothes need washing as soon as they have been worn - there are obvious exceptions which we need not list but there are others that really don't need it.

I dont either. I remember a thread on the boards a few months back when people were being asked how often they would wear a pair of jeans before washing them and some people said once.

I'll happily wear jeans more than once (and then some), I'll wear T shirts more than once as long as Ive not been working out in them.
I also don't wash my hair every day, partly because its almost waist length and prone to tugs, which we in scotland call knots. I wash it every two days and if I need to stretch it to a third I'll use dry shampoo. Im self employed and don't work in an office, I'll wear clean workout gear when Im teaching, but if Im just kicking about the house, I'll happily wear stuff a few times, I certainly don't have the money to be washing clothes every other day.

I don't see the need to wash every single item of clothing as soon as its been on your back.

I said it earlier in the thread, eco balls are very economical if people are looking to cut the costs down of washing.

I remember talking to a colleague a few years back and he said that his washing machine was never off, his wife could put 5 loads of washing on a day. I know everyone's circumstances are different but to me that was excessive.
  • I caught To The Manor Born earlier which took me back to a simpler time. It was filmed in the late 1970s at Cricket St Thomas in Somerset which is where I am originally from, although my family moved away 35 years ago. I worked at the wild life park whilst they were filming the series and I have to say the cast were all truly friendly and genuine.

But it showed the local countryside and shops which really did take me back. It all seems so innocent then and so much simpler. I lived down a country lane with grass down the middle of it which I hated with a passion and left at 18. Now I can think of nothing that would give me greater pleasure! How times change.

    :) Evening all.

Love to hear about Candydog bouncing around and the hens.

Have spent just over £5 today on a bottle of wine to take to a party this weekend, and a completely self-indulgent 30p to spend on a wee choccie bar for me. Living large or what? ;)

I'm not missing spending money and have plans to do stuff tomorrow (subject to the weather not being too vile) which should involve spending no money, either.

I like to have money to cushion me against possible loss of employment due to ill-health, and to cover the everyday costs of running a home (washer died just before Xmas) and to have peace-of-mind. I also don't enjoy shopping at all, plus I'm aiming to whittle down my possessions so that Not Buying It is a useful companion thread to the ones I follow about hoarding and the K0n Mar1e method.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Big vat of leek and tattie soup made this morning so lunches sorted for several days I've got some of my sc gammon for dinner with salad stuff and the last of the grapes and some blueberries I bought last week with natural yoghurt for pudding Is it me or are blueberries rather tasteless.I bought them as DGS Danny kept saying how good they were for you ect, and raving about them admitedley they were on offer in Aldi's but they seemed to have little or no taste at all,so I pepped the pud up with a drizzle of maple syrup, made all the difference.

I had treated myself from Aldi's to the maple syrup (2.99) and its gorgeous, and comes in a lovely glass bottle as well :):)
I heard from my DGS Ben that he is broke at Uni ,no change there then, so being a soft old Grandma I've sent him £20.00 to get him through until we go up in half term I shall take a 'Ben box' with me with emergency supplies of stuff he's run out of(manly tinned food etc and pasta.I think him and his pals are living on what ever they can find to share at the moment but a score will get him some stuff to eke out his grant. He's had to buy a few books etc and had some unexpected bills (mainly sorting out their accomodation for September and finding the deposit ) bless him he's a good lad though and I don't like to think of him being so broke and so far away.
Right time for dinner methinks Have a good evening everyone and keep warm and wrapped up.A few snow flurries here in Kent but so far nothing too serious, just freezing cold :):):)

I don't wash everything after one use, there's no need unless it's actually dirty or no longer passes the sniff test. I work in an office, I get changed into my pj's as soon as I get home and my clothes go back on hangers in the wardrobe...I've sort of split the wardrobe in 2 so I can tell what's already been worn and it will be washed after the next wearing.

As for jeans, I wear them at least 4 times before they get washed as I only wear them for a few hours at the weekend
