Weesmiler, so sorry for your loss. Go to the doctor and I'm sure they would sign you off work with stress / exhaustion especially as you are pregnant. What is wrong with these companies, surely grandparents are a close enough relative?!

All good here, really busy with work. I bought a load of coal and logs yesterday for £54. And I bought my brother a gnome for his birthday, would you believe my local garden centre didn't have any so I got one online. I hope it come on time.

I was meant to be going out on 14th with a friend for an anti valentines girly night but she told me today she has a new man and he wants to take her away. I was gutted but understand and am happy for her. So I've emailed my employed job to say I can work that weekend and am hoping they have shifts come up. And on the plus side I won't be spending!

Just renewed my breakdown cover with clubcard vouchers and waiting for my insurance broker to see if they can better their quote.

Hope everyone is staying warm, roll on summer!

So sorry to hear sad news for others today - you are in my thoughts.

I used a bbc food recipe for potato and curry pasties which I think someone from this thread for my frugal food yesterday which was lush - I sauteed the potatoes with some curry spices before putting into the pasties.

Number 92 - Cut dishwasher tablets in half

I am back using finish tabs after finally finishing some Fairy ones which couldn't be cut in half. I have only got two more boxes left from when they were priced at about £2 a box, a couple of years ago.

Thank you for all the nice comments about our dumpster find wee chair and stool.

I'm so sorry some of you have been having a difficult time, you are in my thoughts

I spent £14.89 in Aldi yesterday, mostly on fresh veg, milk etc - well under budget. I wasn't that impressed by their super 6 - or what was left of it by the time I'd got there.

My sewing machine has been busy repairing things - like split sided cotton pillowcases, old duvets, tops etc. I also made another 6 multi sized recyclable cloth sanitary towels. I appreciate this must make some of you go ewww :( But I find they work really well and wash up as new. Now onto making Japanese type slippers (but lined with fleece ;) for friends out of scraps I have in my fabric box. I'll follow this with pretty fabric drawer liner boxes for storing bits in.

DH has indicated a visit to Ikea  for additional shelves for our Stolmen system. Apparently my sewing is taking over the office :p This will mean spending, but I think longer term it'll pay for itself as that system has been used in all sorts of situation for over a decade now... Still opening my purse will hurt haha

I cut open the toothpaste tube and got every singe bit out of it before buying a new one

Keep up the good work Ship Mates :money:
  • Very sorry for your losses, Weesmiler. I don't know how employers think people are supposed to do their jobs if they are forced to go to work when they have suffered a bereavement and (quite understandably) their thoughts are elsewhere.

So glad it all went well Candygirl! So pleased for you :-)

I've got an old goretex jacket from Sprayway which has been extremely well used and still going strong. I've bought new jackets but still reach for 'old faithful!' Funny how some things just become instant friends and get used for years and others are worn a couple of times and then gather dust.

:) I've always had 'pet' clothes, rosiepup, those things which I love and wear to death.

As a primary school age child it was a stripy teeshirt. Photos trace its progress as I grew, from almost being as big as a dress on me, to ending up skin tight and having to be ragged.

There have been several other examples, but the behaviour has been consistant throughout my life and I don't expect it will change now.

Today's spend was necessary - eggs for £1- and I have been eating out of the fridge, freezer and storecupboard. Plenty more food to go before I need to do some more shopping, although I will probably need milk at approx the weekend.

Going to be rolling in the lucre by the end of Feb at this rate. ;)

  • Is anyone saving for a specific reason or is everyone just saving? I'm curious, as I'm contemplating setting myself a target for something I may want to do in two years time.
  • Im not saving, any savings I do make will go to making extra payments to credit cards, after they are paid off I'll decide what else to do at that point.
  • I'm saving so that I can still have the odd treat/lunches out etc while off work for maternity leave. I would also love to visit my uncle in Canada and go to Italy at some point in the next couple of years if possible, so all savings are welcome in the pot!

    .

When my dad died unexpectedly at new year 2 years ago I was given 5 days compassionate leave....the coroner didn't release his body for burial until the 5th day, when I asked for more time off I was told to take a weeks holiday or come back to work and they would give me the day off for the funeral...I took the weeks holiday...but now realise I should have took more time off as I never grieved properly and I'm still struggling with it at times.

Wee smiler,I am sorry for the loss of your grandparents.x

    Candy girl,great news about Candy.

Edwink how is the new hen? Your birds really do have a good home.I feel for wild birds and animals in this weather. We still have 4" snow left from a week ago.

Spent last night in youngests wardrobe of doom.Lots of stuff for a carboot sale, facebook, ebay, charity shop.

Had a root in my cupboards today and found a few bits to put out and some to get rid of.I don't have ornaments as such, more things if you know what I mean.I am trying to dress the house a bit for viewings.I also bought a bright towel for viewings only with money in paypal from earlier ebay sales.I ring the changes with my ornaments, have em out for a bit then put them in a cupboard for a bit.

Went to local charity shop yesterday and bought 2 very good quality white oxford pillowcases for £1.Already washed waiting to be ironed.

Went to my Mums today and she gave me lots of material she has had since the 70's.I was sat in her living room and thought A.how big the room is and B.what a lot of stuff she has.Now this is all treasures she has acquired and made ( her skills are second to none) She is the epitome of Not Buying it but oh what a lot of stuff. She has already told me that when she dies she wants me to empty the house not my brother and wife because they will just take every thing to the tip.I will have a big job there.

Still working on the wardrobe, possibly be finished at the end of next week.

I am using money not spent on overpaying the mortgage.Money from selling stuff I will save for an Air ram.
