    Morning Shipmates

A rare visit to the medical chest (plastic box) revealed most of the contents out of date, e.g antiseptic lotion , antiseptic cream, indigestion remedies, paracetemol, and other non pescription items, bought, part used and put in box for an another time.

All item ready to be taken to chemist for disposal and basic supplies purchased, other items will be purchased when needed.

Thank you for the soap nut / eco ball advise, I did have eco balls years ago when I was married but my then husband used to moan about the smell or lack of smell, one of the many reasons I divorced him :rotfl:

I went for soap nuts purely because of cost, I only do 1 or 2 wash loads a week because my boys live half at their dads, so hopefully the soap buts will last ages.

I ended up going through all my paperwork last night, I have written a budget, written down when things like insurance are due hoping I can save and pay yearly and also chucked out a load of old paperwork.

I also cleared my CC which I didn't think would happen this month. This thread is very motivating.

Then I did something crazy, signed up for a half marathon in April, it cost £37 and I have to raise £100 sponsorship for SCOPE which is fine. I will be working with my old PT and have an online programme which will motivate me. I woke up this morning thinking "What have I done?" I can probably comfortably run about 3 miles at the moment. But it's on my list of 50 things to do in the next 5 years (written on 1/1/14) so will be another tick in the box. It will impact budgetr slightly because I will adjust my diet but that's fine, if I'm organised it can be frugal. I also need to get a new floro top and some running leggings ideally, I will be training in the dark so need to be seen, my dad gave me a £50 debenhams voucher for xmas so I think I will put it to good use while the sales are on and while I'm in the big city (45 mins away) I will probably go to Aldi and do a big basics shop.

    Sorry for long post!

Morning shipmates looking a bit grim outside so today will be spent indoors at my DDs with my DGS.I was hoping to take them out but looking at the weather its likely that a snuggle up on the sofa and a film will be the order of the day. I'll take my blender with me though and the boys can have a HM milkshake they like to chuck mushed up chocolate and a dollop of ice cream in with the milk so it tastes a bit different we made Oreo milkshakes before Christmas which looked like grey gravel but they loved the taste :):):)
DGS Ben has got a lift organised to go back to Uni so he will be off this coming Saturday Still it save me driving a 200 odd mile round trip
Right time to get a wriggle on have a good day chums and keep those purses locked up tight Day five of my NSD today :):):)
    Cheers chums JackieO xxx

I am hacking like a 50-a-day smoker but determined to get out and at it; Day 5 of the Lurgy, probably a few more days to go. Muscle pains are an interesting anatomical reminder that you do have muscles in some surprising places like your bot.......:rotfl:

Oh my god yes, I thought it was just me that gets a deep aching pain in my bottom cheeks when I get a heavy cold/flu.

  • Happy New Year everyone!

Back from festive jaunts to various friends and relatives, including our most recent stay with OH’s folks where the broadband was broken and there is no mobile signal  Really brought home what complete internet addicts we are, talk about cold turkey!! It was very instructive — haven’t read so many "real” books in ages. Time spent browsing online might be one of the things to do less of in the New Year… Having said that, catching up on this thread has been great — so many inspiring ideas and all the different approaches to "not buying it”. Food for thought, thanks all!

I’m pleased to report that we’ve not really spent much over the festive season, aside from various food and drink contributions for our hosts (mostly purchased ahead of time) and we managed to stay under budget for gifts :T

I’m really chuffed with that — but the best thing for me has been the amount of time not wasted. In the past, I’ve spent ages trawling highstreet sales for “bargains” — exhausting and stressful, often not even buying much, but spending a lot of time in the process. More recently, I’ve spent hours and hours shopping online sales, feeling it was more efficient…but still a horrifying waste of time and money. I can’t say I’ve been very productive instead this year, but I’ve been enjoying some relaxing time with OH, friends and family — much more satisfying than being off on my own on some consumer pointless consumer quest.

So here’s to not wasting time doing shopping as leisure in 2015

Ok it's time to stop floundering in the water, jump in a lifeboat and come aboard if I may?

I have read the thread from the beginning and it has helped me already. I spent an afternoon clearing out the cupboard under the bathroom sink and threw away so many out of date creams and bottles of bath and shower stuff that was unusable. I still have loads to use up but at least I can see what I have. I just have to get my head round throwing away the many boxes of contact lenses I have. I stopped using lenses ages ago so won't use them plus the solutions are bound to be out of date.

I have also cleared out my wardrobe and got rid of loads. How many jumpers do I have?:rotfl:

This is just a start though and there is lots more to do. I hoping this thread will keep me motivated and on track.

Food wise we don't spend a lot. OH goes to mr T at least once a week and does the woopsies. We then supplement that with lidl. We bought a second freezer about a year ago and it has been great. This month will be using up what's in the freezer as we have one tall and one half freezer both full.

We need to get finances and debts sorted. OH left full time teaching September 2013 to go on supply. He had been off with depression and stress twice and couldn't have carried on. I can fully understand all the comments about teaching and stress earlier on in the thread. OH was told his teaching was not up to scratch and not good enough and his confidence was zero. Since being on supply his feedback has been excellent, the schools ask for him back and he is one in a position to choose where he goes. He is doing some longer term work this term so hopefully things will pick up financially. He is so much happier.

Well that's me...looking forward to the great journey ahead

I recall reading years ago about how models much past 18 can't be used for the closeups for cosmetic shots/ skincare shots, because slightly older women (i.e. adults) don't have that flawless skin. Makes you  to think about how barely-more-than-children are used to undermine the self-esteem of adult women and soften us up for the marketeers.
    QUOTE]

And of course there is also the toxicity of photoshopping. They try to make us ladies feel insecure because we don't look like the flawless celeb's and models in magazines... when they don't look like that either. Some of the photo-shopping is laughable... Madonna frequently looks like she is wearing death mask and Beyonc! with her big bottom and then thighs photo-shopped and slimmed down looks like a pumpkin on stilts... and Kim Kardashian?? What a terrible example to young women... inflate your buttocks, have no career other than selling yourself to the highest bidder and get naked whenever a camera bulb pops. YUUUUUAAAK!

Much as I applaud some cosmetic companies using older models... they are still photo-shopped to within an inch of their life. Kate Moss for example... she has the skin of a mouldy crumpet, yet appears in adverts for Yves Saint Laurent and Rimmel with the flawless glow of a six year old.

I am fed up of being sold lies... however I am very excited that I am starting to wake up and see the truth... and acting on it.

Winge over. Have a great day y'all. xx :)

    Good morning all.

Not returning to work today and have appointment with consultation tomorrow afternoon. Not looking forward to it. On the plus side today will be a NSD though tomorrow won't be. Will be taking hand sanitiser in an effort to avoid norovirus inevitably visiting the hospital at this time of year.

On the beauty products, I don't know whether I should name drop but I use liz earle and elemis facial skin care and have done for about 15 years. Both are not cheap brands, though I know there are more expensive ones. I'm not above cutting the packaging open to get the last bits out. In terms of body care I am a Molton brown fan. I think I only have so much as I use it carefully ( always reuse old pumps rather than pouring shower gel out). I am definitely a sucker for a sale deal but I will check this year to see if I NEED something before I buy a bargain.
All my minis I put together and donate them to either local hospital or local women's refuge a couple of times a year so that gets rid of little versions of the products.

    Have good days all.

    Bexster :)

    Talking of lotions & potions.

So for me I will not buy any hand cream in 2015, and I will try and regularly but not excessively use the stock pile.
Have a good day ladies & gents.

    Hi Toozie

You are another one your shipmates will be keeping an eye on!!

Beware!!!! No purchasing of any hand creams in the shops throughout 2015.

If you do it could be the gang plank for you!!! You have been warned!!!!!!!!!
