NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday
Comments
-
Ventured into Tesco for the first time since before Xmas. It was surprisingly quiet. Had a list and only bought those items apart from 2 rolls of Xmas paper reduced to 50p (a bargain!).
I only shop in tesco for the odd thing I can't get in Aldi. I live in a very expensive town and will be sticking to the supermarkets at the moment for my food/household items. I grow most of my fruit and veg.
Some decluttering and tidying to do today. Then homemade burgers for dinner.0 -
I use coconut oil on my face, not on my hair though, it just made it feel really greasy. I also have a lot of products waiting to be used, most given as presents so I need to get using them this year, I also have lots of soaps, again Im going to make effort to get them used.
Re foods past their best before, I bought from approved foods for a couple of years and never had any problems. Also stuff like salads, I bought kale YS recently and it was fine for about 2 weeks after, I also bought a big bag of YS tomatoes and was still eating them around 2 week after the date, my mum said she didn't think they were GM due to the way they started to go off when they eventually did. I also used a couple of cartons of soya milk dated last April a couple of weeks ago with absolutely no problems at all.
I dont buy organic coconut oil but the one I get is 2.50 a carton from ebay and I get it click and collect at argos so no postage.
I'll shove the link up in a bit.0 -
I don't have a beauty routine as such, Ive got very sensitive skin but Ive got quite good skin and Im quite lazy with it, my idea of a routine is to slap a face pack on every now and then, but Ive been given presents of various cleansers/toners and I might as well use them up this year.
Same with shampoo/conditioner. My mum and I used to bulk buy from a company called faith in nature and we are still working our way through the shampoo we bought I think 3 christmases ago, so I think I have enough shampoo to last me probably until the middle of the year.
The job I do means I wear casual clothes pretty much every single day, some instructors will wear make up to teach but I never have and Im pretty lazy to be honest, as long as I have my nails done and a bit of perfume on that does me.
I tried the lidl perfume mentioned in a previous post and I didn't like it. Some perfumes just smell wrong on certain people and that one did on me. I tend to buy body shop and M and S perfume, the body shop ones are quite fruity and they do me, again I have enough perfume to last me until the middle of the year.
Technically speaking I should only need to purchase toothpaste and that is it0 -

Hi Bexster,
First of all best wishes on your consultation tomorrow, I also have hospital tomorrow, an exploratory op under general, so thank you for the reminder about hand sanitiser and norovirus!
Regarding Liz Earle, I also love her stuff, you need to stay alert to when she has special sales on QVC, when you can get decent bargains on her products.
Hope this helps.
Liz Earle news letters are also a great source of bargain prices. Mum was very generous to me this year and got me a big box of goodies. I usually ask for the moisturiser as my birthday pressie and the cleanser as Christmas pressie. It's the one thing I can't downgrade on, and believe me I've tried. But my skin is just too sensitive and working in a hot grease filled kitchen I need to protect it best I can
Was not a NSD yesterday. After visiting mother in hospital we had to go into town to get something or other for the car and I popped into the pet shop and spent £2.77 on kernels and seeds for the birds and fish food Nearly got caught out as I went straight to the weigh bins where the price was 50/55p for 100gr,then found packs of 500grs for 99p.
Then as it was getting on and we were both hungry and tired we had dinner out, another £15 but at least only half of what we would usually pay for two and we did need the wind down time together so I'm not beating myself up over it
Today it's home made soup ( some very sad parsnips in the fridge) with the rolls we made Saturday refreshed in the oven, and hubby can do a toasty or something for his tea as I'm in work tonight. Mums staying in for another day so no need to worry about her needing a hot meal today. I'll prolly make a cottage pie whilst in the kitchen today for their tea tomorrow Even hubby can manage to put that in the oven and open a tin of beans
Well wishes for those who are poorly0 -
Hi everybody.
Have had quite a productive morning.
I have assembled a large lasagna from the sauce I made yesterday which I'll have for my tea then portion up the rest for later in the week. Four portions of cauliflower and stilton soup are now in the freezer. The cauliflower was some from last week & the cheese was from Christmas so no extra costs.
I have been doing some sorting this morning and now have a small bag of items ready for the cs. Not a lot but better for the charity to get a few pennies for it than cluttering my house.
I found 4 packs of 5 Christmas gift bags. Don't know where I bought them from & most certainly didn't remember I had them when wrapping the presents at Christmas. These are now with my other wrapping paper along with some Christmas cards which I think date from 2012!
I also now have a shoe box full of out of date cough mixtures etc to ditch. I am lucky as I rarely get colds but I rush out and buy something new every time I do hence a load of out of date stuff.
With regards to makeup it is something that I have never used except eye shadow and mascara years ago. I am lucky that I have good skin (Thank You Mum & Dad) and I only use soap and water & cheap moisturiser. During my tidying I have found lots of mini shower gels etc & I am going to make a determined effort to use these up in the coming months.0 -
Morning everyone, I'm another one who's on the use up toiletries challenge. I have enough makeup to last a lifetime and have successfully managed to not buy anything apart from restocking the foundation / concealer / face powder for the last 2 years. I tend to try and replace via ebay (I'm good at spotting fake products) where I can in order to save some cash.
Must admit that I had a minor flurry of purchases in the sales: 1 pair of earrings to replace a pair OH lost that were very dear to my heart (managed to track down the exact same pair in a forgotten part of the sale rack) and a new handbag from Zara for work that I've been eyeing for a while and thought I would treat myself to as a reward for getting a new job (plus it was seriously discounted). Apart from that I've been really good - even going to the library to get my next 2 book club books rather than purchasing from the used Amazon pages like I usually do.
Need to do a stock take of the freezer soon as it really needs defrosting and therefore needs emptying. I'm sure we can make about a week's worth of dinners from what's in there if I'm creative enough!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
This thread is growing so quickly that it's a job to keep up with reading all the interesting posts. I think I may soon be forced to stop taking out library books so that I have the time to keep up with it ! Enjoy reading about all your money saving ideas.0

Afternoon shipmates. Been fairly productive so far today. I've done my first morning shift at work then popped to Ald# for the weekly shop spent £60.66, then popped t waitros# for rinse aid, as Ald didn't have any. Popped to the chemist to ask pharmacists opinion about my finger, I seem to have a nail bed infection, for about a month :embarasse, and she seemed to think that it would hurt to get it looked at. I don't do doctors, haven't been in about 6 years, but bit the bullet and made an appointment for weds morning. Got some washing on the go at present, just about to have some lunch, and then back to work until 6.30.
Another Liz Earle fan here, mainly their cleanse and polish and moisturiser, like another op said, I like to wait for QVC offers.

Hi Toozie
You are another one your shipmates will be keeping an eye on!!
Beware!!!! No purchasing of any hand creams in the shops throughout 2015.
If you do it could be the gang plank for you!!! You have been warned!!!!!!!!!
Edwink x
Hi Edwick
I will fully deserve the gang plank or worse as well!
I promise not to buy hand cream, and I will (try) and use what I have sparingly- which will last until about 2020!
