Aww. I've just run over somebody who was crossing the road and didn't see me coming....
I often walk our dog round a nearby retail park and it amazes me how commen an occurrence this is.0 -
Does it? I was going to say 100m but then I thought I would get replies on here saying that's too near, for example if you are diriving at 50mph on a motorway and the road appears to be empty in front of you ,,,,
But actually, I have just realised how it would work in practice
If visibility is 100m then with foglights on you might get visibility at 150m or 200m (compared to without foglights)
so 150m - 200m is probably going to be enough to slow down and over take with caution.
Still, I doubt plod would stop a car with foglights on in 200m visibility conditions, that's still pretty seriously bad visibility.
You probably had them on in conditions totally inappropriate like when you can see all the cars tail lights (without their fog lights on) ahead of you for 1/2 mile or more.
Dont be a numpty and suppose things that are beyond you. Being a bit anal i argued the point with plod and offered to use my long tape to pace it out but he unprofesssionally made himself busy with another driver he had pulled. Even shouting oi im talking to you didnt get his attention. He was possibly right, but it was a very close call, I regularly estimate distances for a living. The tape would have decided it. And it was residential roads, no overtakeing and no clear visibility for half a mile due to road layout. so in conclusion, yes bad advice was given, the law is clear.0 -
On the dashboard lighting front. My little Up has what I think is quite a good feature. It does have a light sensor, but not for auto lights, it uses that to then dim the dashboard if it's dark and the only way to bring the dash lights back on is to switch the lights on.0

I see this all the time, it really pees me off.
Cars driving with just parking lights on, drls etc or if they actually have headlights on usually one of them is out.
Even when walking I'll point at cars coming along the road, pointing at their lights when one or both are out.0 -
On this subject: I was driving in to work tonight, pitch dark, unlit A road, following a slowish car. Straight section, look to overtake, and see a motorbike coming the other way, driving almost on the grass verge. There was physically room to pass, but out of courtesy to the other guy I hang back.
Good thing I did. The approaching vehicle was almost opposite me I saw it was a car - a dull black hatchback with both the offside headlight AND sidelight out. The fact that it was a car was impossible to see until you could almost touch it.
What is wrong with people?
/rantIf someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
