Am I the only person whose car has a small warning light on the dash for sidelights, one for dip, and one for main...?0

Sounds like a good idea and far better than you killing or disabling someone because you "forgot". With driving comes responsibility.
I suppose you are perfect and never have done anything silly?
I do realise (and said it before or something like that) driving without lights is dangerous.0 -

Silly - yes
Criminally dangerous - Not that I can recall.
I think it's your rather blonde attitude to it and lack of understanding of potential devastating consequences that grates.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Can you do me a favour and read again my first post in this thread. I do understand it is dangerous and said it could be nasty.
"Blonde attitude"? Wow, didn't you enjoy your Sunday dinner and decided to give some abuse over here?
I think I will stop feeding you and go for a walk or do something useful.0 -

Last week I nearly t-boned a VW Passat that was crossing a dual carriageway with no lights on, 5am on a frosty morning, I stopped just inches from the passenger side door. Had I reacted 100ms later, the passenger would be in hospital right now.
After stopping, the driver proceeded to shout at me, whist the passenger shouted at the driver.
The problem with not using lights is that you become invisible against the cars around you.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I can't believe a Passat driver would do something like that!0

If it's in a built up area with a 30mph limit and streetlighting then what they are doing is perfectly legal providing that there is nothing else such as fog or rain affecting visibility. (not advisable IMO, but still legal)0 -

No...
I have DRLs and automatic headlights, which work fine in pretty much all situations (and the good thing is that one or other is always on, so you never have no lights at the front). However, where I have slipped up is when the car has been in for a service or other work, and for some reason the mechanic nearly always turns the lights completely off (and the aircon) so if I don't notice immediately I can set off without any lights on and the windscreen liable to mist up.0 -
Some of the cars at work do this, very annoying! DRLs are also stupid, they light up the road fairly well but people don't realise they have no rear lights on whatsoever.notanewuser wrote: »I blame cars that have dashboard lights that come on automatically when you get in the car. I was taught that when it's too dark to see the dials, put your lights on!
My car automatically turns the lights off when I open the door, so I tend to just leave them on all the time at this time of year. Much more helpful than just beeping to tell me to turn them off IMO.0 -
I find it the best routine is to always switch the lights on no matter what the weather or time of day. Helps people see me and I swear it reduces the number of people pulling out in front of me. Best to be seen and all that.0
