I'm going mad - I swear I posted on here earlier!
I whittered on about wanting to save for a holiday too and that I was going to save more before the end of the month. :)

Sorry everyone but I have to share... I had a text from an online gambling site (think sports, not poker!) today offering me a free £10 bet, I only use the account once in a blue moon but figured I'd just as well make use of it as it's free. After spending some time trying to work out how to use it I placed my bet and 90 minutes later came away with £42 in my pocket!!

This month hasn't been great as there have been a few hefty expenses which have rinsed my 'rainy day' savings entirely, so this win should help secure this months long term savings without having to dip into them much, or at all. My January income was down by £300 compared to usual as we didn't touch the latest rental income knowing that a large bill was about to go out for maintenance carried out on the property, I also needed to buy a new laptop and don't know yet whether the insurance claim made by the person who damaged the old one will go through or not, I found a good deal on my car insurance renewal so snapped that up while I could and I had a visit to the dentist this week which resulted in having a replacement filling to be paid for (private treatment). Next week we have friends over from the States so, depending on what their plans are, that could bring some extra expense too.

As I'm typing this I'm realising just how great this thread is, I mean I knew this already but until I started typing this I was initially quite disappointed with myself that I was only set to make savings of around £200-£250 for this month, if I'm lucky, and that I'd wiped out my 'rainy day' fund. But typing this has helped me put it into perspective. All things considered, I now think I've done pretty well to still have money to put away at all! :rotfl:

  • Juggling finances but managed to put another £125 into savings account today. All bills up to date. This week will keep expenses to the minimum ! So enjoying this thread - think I have become addicted to saving !
    #76 Save £12k in 2015 challenge

    £3625/£4000 :j
  • Just a quick update I have decided to include my Tesco savers which will make Jan total higher but for the following months will only increase it by £6.

I'm not including the money saved in the 53 week challenge as this money is to make my emergency fund so I want it separate from this challenge which will fund home improvements.
