  • Yay payday at last! It has been a really tough month. I've been ruthlessly thrifty and managed to save £1750 but it was a struggle. Quite proud of myself given how hopeless I was a year ago, this thread really helps me focus. May involves a break in the states (yay!) and a wretched driving test (boo!) so I know I'm not going to manage much saving...

    Spreadsheet updated.
    Mortgage overpayments 2018: £4602, 2019: £7870
    Mortgage overpayments 2020: £4620
    Mortgage 2017 £145K, June 2020 £112.6k:o

Not had a good month with the savings but pleased to have added something during these last stages of the month.

    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

We switched away from SP and had to chase them every few days for something like 6 *months*! The only way we got the £700 or so that they owed us back was by bombarding their social media presences with complaints and warnings and threatening to go to the ombudsman. We were 3? days away from the date by which the ombudsman would have stepped in when they settled up. Total shower.

Now with Good Energy, who are lovely, if a bit dearer. Luckily small home improvements like loft insulation and draught exclusion mean that, even though our supplier is dearer, we're still better off overall (and Good Energy appealed to my green side )

Blimey edinburgher - you've had an even worse time with them than I have!! I have the feeling there have been quite a few complaints about them? ...

There's a PS to my story - which is I found when I checked my bank account this morning that Scottish Power had taken a direct debit! This after the staff member I spoke to last week assured me that the account was now closed. I rang up and the person I spoke to this morning (someone different) said: "The payment has been taken because the account isn't closed" - her tone seemed to imply that was somehow my fault. (!) She added: "We can't close it till we get the final reading from the new supplier." I knew they had got that on March 4 because the person I spoke to last week had asked if the final reading was correct. I pointed that out. She hedged a bit, then told me that they couldn't give a refund for the direct debit because it was a direct debit and I would have to go to my bank about it. So I did, and it only took a couple of hours to get the money back, but really!!

but my request may not work unless Mr Crime Fiction has definitely said he is not returning? ... I'm so sorry :( You work hard on this thread as it is.
As far as I'm aware, Mr Crime Fiction isn't returning to the thread this year, hence why the number was free on the spreadsheet :)
