When overpaying on my morgage I always use to concentrate on how much interest I was saving. It made me feel good and help me stay very focused.
That's what I try to say to the ladies and Gents that I serve in the bank, forget the figures you are paying towards but think of those figures you are saving....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Happy April everyone!
#51 declaring £5113 for March! Over half of this came from DH's annual bonus and has moved us very close to having house buying fees saved in addition to our deposit! We plan to start looking at houses this month
I've updated the spreadsheet SF
Oops, just realise I declared using last year's challenger number! Have changed nowMFiT-T4 #75: £142,480 to £86,700 by Jan 2019

Declaring a total of £1056.01 for March. Still on target and I've gone orange on the spreadsheet
A lot of our bills are rising this month and we have week of annual leave so I'm not sure I'll make the target this month but I'll certainly try. £500 to the tsb to start.MFW 2024 £27500/7500 Mortgage £129,500 Jan 22 Final payment June 38 Now £68489.08 FP May 36 Emergency Fund £20,000 100% Added to ISA 24 £8,060 Save 12k in 24 #31 £20,034.76/20,000 Debt Free 31.07.140 -
Declaring £4943.97 for March
It has been a very good month, although forgot to make a payment that would have taken me past the £5k mark for the month, oh well. April is looking good, but then a few lean months to come so the overall £24k for the year may be ambitious, we'll see0 -
Just 1,150 for March. Waiting until the 6th April before piling in again so I should be back on target next (this) month"Chuck Norris can remain solvent for longer than the markets can remain irrational"0

I'm number 207 on the list and have been posting my saving for three months. I see this (in my own case only others ways are available) as money I do not spend on regular household bills and normal expenditure during the month. As I;ve mentioned, the day after pay day I clear remaining money from my current account to my savings account. This saved money is a one-pot recepticle for short, medium and long-term saving. As soon as the new ISA year begins, mucch of my savings will be transfered to that,, since the max increased last year I've been much happier as I could keep most of my saving tax-free.
However, and this is a big bad however, I have to have a wall rebuilt at our home, so about £2,500 will come out of my savings for that. But I've already saved it so I won't be subtracting it from my totals. In the same way, I loaned a friend some money in December from my savings and when he repays me I won't be adding that to my monthly total either.
Does this sound odd?
I know what you mean. I have different accounts for savings/investments and even if you dip into it the money has been saved for that purpose anyway. I have a Tesco internet saver to save my £1 per day for Christmas but it will all come out in November.
For this challenge though I am investing rather than saving so it will stay in the portfolio and all being well I will have the £12k plus whatever growth is in the investment portfolio. So far I have invested £2500 and it is now worth £2585 but it goes up and down daily.
I budget each month at the beginning after mine and OH salaries go in at the end of the previous month and always leave some money in the 123 current account for home diy, car expenses, holidays etc and that is separate from investments as it will come out at different points through the year.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Is anyone else waiting for the start of the new tax year to open their nice shiny new isa? I will be opening a new stocks and shares isa on Monday or Tuesday with £1500 to make up for only saving £500 in March. Also just sent off my bed and isa form to transfer my non isa investment I have saved since January into it so all being well my portfolio will have £4k plus growth in it by the end of this month.
