  • Quick update

£1100 for me this month. Can't believe its April already.
  • Hi All,

Haven't been round much the last few weeks, but popping by to post latest update......

Managed to save £747.37 this month making a total of £3,456.91 this year. March was a bit lighter than expected as I treated myself to a new record deck (it will be my only big treat this year).

On the positive side, I now have another little job which will bring in an extra £80 a week, so should be able to beat the original target if it lasts.

  • Update for March - £756.60 saved, helped by tax rebate and topcashback. I have also paid off a credit card in full though so financial situation is definitely improving. It's a great motivator to read all your savings updates, no matter how big or small.

I'm expecting April to be tough -the kids are off for two weeks and we are effectively living on one wage until my OH starts his new job, so may not be able to save as much this month. We'll see how it goes.

    Happy Easter everyone :A

First Update on my savings target im new on here.

First 3 months have gone pretty well and I currently have £3,400 saved up towards my house deposit. In these few months ive paid off my credit card balance which was£2000 and my very account which was £400. All that is left is my car finance which is at £12k (I will save up and pay this off after I have purchased my house)

Now we are on the April I have my car insurance and car tax to purchase, but my car tax is free!!!! and my insurance is £560 which will set me back a little for this month but not a great deal, the good news is i get paid 3 times in April!

According to my YNAB budget my target is for £5,570 to be saved after the month of april finishes so that means an extra £1,100 will be added this month, which is good considering I have my insurance to purchase.

Im also working 5 extra shifts in the next few week, im that deserate to save im working Friday, Saturday and Sunday night as well as 2 more extra shifts during the week which will be great! if i stay 8 hours each shift I will earn an extra £860 and if i work 6 hours each shift i will earn £654 so there is allot of possibilities for the month.

So on the last day of every month I just look at my current account, deduct what is owing on my credit card and anything that is due to be paid and declare that number? Well even I can manage that I reckon!
For even more simplicity I only deduct what is owed on the credit card. Anything due to come out (but hasn't yet) would be accounted for in the next month's tally.

Not a good day, my car failed its MOT and needs both front shock absorbers replaced. Won't get a final figure until I get my car back tomorrow but just to replace the absorbers being over £400 I'm looking at a total around the £500 mark.

I think my April total is going to be extremely low possibly even negative; oh well c'est la vie at least I have a buffer in my target so can afford a bad month.

  • What do you want your target to be?

Hello. I am going to be ambitious, aiming at £75k. £20k in thus far, trying to resist various tempting purchases at present so I am hoping this thread helps ensure my motivation doesn't wane!

Ok, I need some help. My credit card runs from the middle of the month. So I have a cc bill to pay in a few weeks, and I also know what I have added to the bill in the last couple of weeks since the previous bill. Which numbers am I using?

Current account minus cc bill due in the middle of the month OR

Current account minus everything I have actually spent on the credit card whether it has reached the billing stage or not?

As you can see money stuff does not come naturally to me but I am determined to crack it with your help.

As long as you use the same calculation each month it doesn't matter :)

I use the full credit card balance as of that day (last day of the month), which includes that month's statemented-but-yet-to-be-paid amount, as well as things put on the credit card since then and that will appear on next month's statement.
