So, those of you who were lucky enough to get snow... How have your preps helped you? :)

I've spent today being labourer for the gasman who has been bringing my boiler 100% up to code :D He's fixed the flue, and then between us we spent 4 hours outside insulating the 8m long condensation pipe! The reason it took so long is the boiler is on the first floor of the house so he had to rent ladders then its a very narrow space to work in, and then it seemed that if things could go wrong they did. But its done now, and in theory there shouldn't be any problems with the pipe freezing up again :D

Next on his list is fixing the fireplace! The hole and fire are incompatible so the hole needs bricking up a bit, and the back plate cutting down & fixing on. Then he's going to make the backing of the fire surround safe as well. :D

Then I'll have a list of jobs for the landlady when she gets back from her holiday ;)

  • No but it's currently -5 here in Hampshire so it might be hibernation unless it warms up a bit!!! Hope you are faring well down in beautiful Cornwall and not quite as chilly as we are!

There's no snow here but it is frosty and icy out there. My house feels fairly warm though luckily.

I've had lying snow for a week but it's to thaw today, wind and rain to come back. :(
  • Oh thank god I haven't lost you all, I couldn't understand why it had been 10 days plus since anyone posted... Cornwall hasn't seen a single flake  However, we have had a few sharp frosts and coupled with the wind it does feel baltic.
Yesterday was delightful, we had almost a full day of sunshine which really made a difference walking about the town..This morning we have piercing winter sun shining in the kitchen window, the hens are clucking away at the top of the garden and I'm happy relaxing with my coffee before work. All's well in my world xx

It got down to -5 here last night and my car was still frozen when I went out at lunchtime

Heating is on 24/7 here in midwinter but I turn it on low on the thermostat at night and back up when we need it in the daytime. This last week it hasn't got up to usual temps in the house so I have been leaving it turned up overnight. Radiator in my bedroom is always off though as I like a cold room to sleep in but even I have appreciated stepping onto the landing where it is warm!
