SS are you ok? 17000 without power, but amazingly ours stayed on.
Was reading the Scots weather forum and needed to copy this ok -
First post:
Hi Desperately need to know whether the worst has hit the isle of Lewis as mum needs to know whether to make a run from her house as her windows have blown out n the roof may go as well?
Then:
Mum has been forced to make a run for it as the roof is gonna go with 3 of them stuck in the house she's calling 999 to help as she also has 2 dogs there.
Edited: she's been told to stay put by the police don't think even they can risk it either
OMG-that is just awful.
I'm on the coast in North Wales we have had no power-but that's all.
It's now absolutely hammering it down & very windy.:j0 -
It sounds scary.:(HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

I saw that on the Scots weather forum too Mar, we have friends in Grantown on Spey, and on Skye, waiting to hear that they are ok. Hope you're still intact and haven't lost power today.
A later update from that poster said the roof had stayed on but next-door's garage roof was across the drive. Wind gusts on Lewis 109mph, unimaginably scary.
It's blustery here, it'll be a restless night listening to the trees creaking, but really we get off pretty lightly most of the time.0 -
Thanks for the Scottish weather updates and mentions of Scottish weather forums. I'm in the North of England and the cursory mention of 'becoming much colder in the south' on BBC Radio 4 this morning makes me so mad! Yes, we have weather up North too!
It's very blustery here but not as bad as you are experiencing further North. I hope that everyone is safe and well and reaping the benefit of all of that winter preparation. The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I agree, sometimes everything is centered around the capital etc-I am in the North West.
Blowing a gale here, but sunny- I've just had a non-prep for winter incident.
Put washing out earlier-just 2 loads of light weight items, thought they'd be dry in a couple of hours with the gales, anyway the rotary washing line metal has severed at the base :eek:.
The whirly bit & pole was resting on next doors wall-luckily I could rescue the wet washing & it was still clean.
Now I have no washing line! The aluminium has severed through with the strength of wind & weight of clothes.
It's a good make with 5 year guarantee, so I'm off to take pictures now.
I suppose a prep for winter would be to have a washing line as well!!
Take care everyone

It's very windy in West Yorkshire. Our neighbours fence is down. It's been snowing up on the tops and our local council is saying that we are forecast snow for this evening and tomorrow so the gritters will be out.
The washing is out at the moment but I'm keeping an eye on it. It's certainly gone a lot colder since I got up this morning.
Thankfully weeks shopping now done.
Stay save and warm.

We are now forecast heavy snow 6pm until 9pm. DD is out with a friend and has just text to say she is staying overnight. This will save us a trip to the train station to pick her up. We are now in for the evening, time to relax.

It's white up here, sunny bits then snow showers, and the wind would go right though you. But nice and bright
Shetland had 101mph wind this morning.

Hi pollys, which forecast do you use? I'm WY too and can't see it on my Yorkshire page.

Hi bossy moo
It was on the BBC weather page. It's now changed to rain with some sleet later. Our local council tweets if the gritters are being sent out and they were also expecting snow. Guess the forecast changes quickly!
