Preparing for Winter V

We've had snow since Monday in W.Yorks. Today is the first time I've attempted to get the car out - definitely melting now. So not snowed in as such but have only been out to walk to school and back. Luckily I can work from home, and I keep a fair stock in for such occasions so we haven't starved.
But it's only been a few days
Temps are supposed to pick up now but I have left the heating on low overnight this week to avoid frozen pipes.
So no catastrophes here, touch wood.Bossymoo

I have always lurked on this thread, reading all the fabulous ideas but apart from the odd thing never seemed to get anything done.
I live in a Victorian mid terrace and have been sitting here this morning feeling very frosty. Very, very frosty. So this weekend and through the year I'm going to more than lurk and do as much as I can to be warmer next year,
I do have central heating which DH had put in when he first moved in but just single glazing. I'm trying to save to get the windows done and hopefully this will be by next winter so small steps to warm the house are needed.
One problem I do have is mould due to condensation. If I seal things up this is going to get worse so I need to find out how I can sort this out.
I'm going to read back through the posts and see what can be done today.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

We actually headed for the hills a couple of days ago just to see the snow! It was so pretty to see but nice to come home to a cosy house! The first time it's looked like 'proper winter' to us this year. (Best wishes to all of you in the Consett, Derwentside area
)
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Our snow has gone today but supposedly more to come on Wed. Had a spell of real cold this year and made a decision to get thermal blinds for the back of the house.0

No snow in our neck of the woods as yet. I have mixed feelings as I love to see everything white and pretty and love the crunch under foot. However as I get older I'm more fearful of slipping even with snow grips and tend to feel the cold more and hate being on the roads in icy conditions.
Went up to Nottingham for a concert at the weekend and had been dreading the drive, expecting bad weather but it was gloriously sunny and dry if a bit chilly.
We added gas central heating and double glazing to our modern box 5 yrs back and what a difference. Previously we had storage heaters and single glaze drafty sash windows and only ever felt warm early in the morning.
Still waiting to use our preps of candles, snow shovels and grips and have stocked up on half price soups at W'rose and other provisions just in case we see snow and bad weather before the winter is out.0 -
Were are forecast more from tomorrow night so I picked up a bit of extra milk yesterday and we are well stocked. I don't really like taking the car out in snow so I've got my bases covered.
I'm not due back in the office now until next Tuesdaystill working but from home.
So we shall not venture very far if the roads are anything like last week. The kiddies do love it though, especially DD as she was too young to remember the snow from the year before last.Bossymoo

It looks like we're all in for an interesting couple of days worth of weather and that anywhere could get snow showers, certainly I think we'll all get cold! In the paper today they are also predicting an oddity that will mean extra high tides at the end of March and in September as the sun and moon will be in line with each other at a time when the sun is closest to the earth and it will exert larger than normal gravitational pull on the water in the seas. Interesting to see what actually happens. Hope you are all stocked up with necessities and the means to keep warm and then we'll all be fine whatever happens.0

Just ordered thermal blinds from a wee local business because we're sick of the north side of the house being an arctic zone. Total of £110 for the kitchen and bathroom, inc fitting, and will be done in a week. Happy0

Ooh that's good value.
Both kiddies bedrooms have thermal backed roman blinds and they really make a difference.
I'm decorating the spare room soon and going to get one for in there, and one for my room too at the same time.
Howling wind today here. Coming back from school was horrid, rain being pelted at me. Need a lady balaclavaBossymoo
